Tomatoes are acidic making them members of the citrus family. Anything citrus is comsidered a fruit, not a vegetable. Think lemons, limes, oranges, etc.

Tomatoes are a fruit because they have seeds and because of how they are structured internally. In fact, tomatoes are actually berries because they have a thin skin, pulp, and seeds.

The tomato is a fruit because it has seeds. Other "vegetables" that are also fruits are cucumbers and zucchini.
