You're talking to a die-hard insomniac here. I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep myself. Have you sought medical advice? Your doctor could probably prescribe a mild sleeping aid, or you can try some of the OTC stuff at the drug store. I don't know what kind of "routine" other people have advised you about, but if your lack of sleep is due to some physical or emotional disorder, that's all the more reason for you to get medical help. Sleep disorders can cause other problems and make you less alert during the day for performing your normal activities, including driving. Meantime, try to make your bedtime as conducive to sleep as possible, and avoid caffeine after 6:00 p.m. Happy Z's

I personally could hardly ever sleep also. It wasn't until I started wearing ear plugs and an eye mask to sleep that I started being able to get some reallllly good sleep. It turns out that I finally realized I needed ultra silence and darkness to sleep well. Also, stay FAR FAR AWAY from any sort of caffeine after 6pm or so. I don't know how your metabolism is, but caffeine will stay in my system til like 3am if I drink it for dinner and then I end up miserable in bed begging myself to fall asleep and I can't cause the caffeine is still screwing with my body.
I definitely suggest trying the ear plugs and a dark blue or black colored eye mask. You'll look goofy when you go to bed, but it's soooo worth it!! Make sure your alarm is on really loud to make sure you'll hear it through your ear plugs.

I was in the depths of Chemo and everyday was shocked that I woke up and was still alive!

I kind of know what you are up against. My problem was.. because I DID think I was going to die.. I didn't WANT to go to sleep! I only slept about 2 hours a night!

I didn't want to miss anything!

Try subliminal tapes, I suggest either Sleeping Soundly or Healing Yourself. Even if you don't belive it will do anything, the music or waves crashing on shore is very relaxing. Use headphones and then tense and relax each part of your body starting with your toes, then your feet, and work your way up. This technique combined with the subliminal music should really help!

Benadyle works for me. Or, I'll just do things to tire myself out during the day. Sometimes, having the TV on a timer or soft music helps me go to sleep. These all work for me but everyone is different so just try all the different suggestions you get on here until you get one that works.

If you really cant sleep perhaps its because you are not relaxed enough, maybe turning something over n over in your mind, or perhaps its just straight forward you're not tired. Is something bothering you & you cant see a way out, if so remember a problem shared is a problem halved, dont try to do it alone seek help from someone qualified to give it

Only go to bed if you are really tired. If you are not asleep after 20 minutes, get up and read a book, or watch some TV. Keep trying, and after some time it will work! Sweet dreams x

fill your time, if you are awake do some thing paint, write letters ,read don't watch t.v or use the computer it's too stimulating. and if you don't start enjoying your extra hours [remember a lot of famous people function on 4 hours sleep]Try herbal sleeping pills as they don't have the dramatic hangover effect other pills have. but why can't you sleep in the first place? if it's because you are worrying about everything under the sun then what i do is put away each worry in an imaginary cardboard box and put it under the bed. if it tries to resurface then i shut the lid down again and say 'i'll worry about that tomorrow'. if it's because of the heat then get a fan in your room. if it's because your partner is demanding too much sex tell them where to go!

Try dancing or running before you go to sleep. Drink hot milk before you go to sleep. Try listening to calming music. Relax. Don't watch any TV or PC before sleep. =) Hope you get some sleep soon
