I found an egg on rock when I went with my folks up to Lake Las Vegas this Sunday, I was tempted to take it home since I didn't seen any other birds or a nest. But my older sister told me to leave it there, I didn't touch it.

But I told myself the next time I found a bird egg I would probably sneak it back home.

Would you do this or not?

No jokes or wisecracks please.

No. You do not know how long the egg has been there. Chances are it would not hatch but if you saw the nest an egg fell out of you could return it to the nest if possible in the future.

Are you sure it was a bird's egg? It could have been a lizard egg like a Gila Monsters egg.

When you are out in the wild, you are in all of natures "bed room". You don't like it when someone comes in and makes a mess of your room right? So show the animals the same respect- don't make messes of where THEY have to live. Don't litter, and dont' take their children- think how angry your Mom would be if someone took you?

Your sister is right in this case

Yes. Anyways, you can't put it back in the nest. The bird in the nest will either push it out of the nest or peck it until it is broken. Why would a bird do this ?? Because it has human smells on it. If you do take one home keep wrapped up in blankets or put in an incubator.

No !!!
If the egg was out of the nest chances are that the mother bird discarded the egg for a reason - usually the baby chick is dead already or it has been contaminated. Please do not interfere with nature. it is part of life's cycle.

Place it back in the nest. Rejection due to human smells is not accurate any more due to more research.
