Try a pinch (prong) collar. Although others may think these collars are 'inhumane', as an intelligent adult you should be able to form your own opinion. Personally, I think they serve a purpose as a training tool and like most things, if improperly used, can certainly be harmful. A tradiational choker chain may also be used, but I find these are less effective than the pinch collars, requring a greater number of corrections and therefore, may pose more harm to the dog than a pinch collar.
When using either of these collars, be sure not to give your dog any slack in the leash at first, requiring him to walk beside you. When he resists and begins to tug, correct giving a short but firm tug either to the side or upward (don't tug back on your dog, this will only make the tug pull forward harder). As you provide the correction, say "Heel" firmly. This may take a while, but eventually your dog will get it. If your dog is particularly stubborn, you may want to enroll in obedience classes or seek additional help from a professional.
Your other option is to get a 'collar' that fits over the dogs head so you have more control.
Hope this helps and good luck!

First try turning and walking in the opposite direction every time he tries to pull. After a while he should start walking alongside of you and paying attention to which direction you are going. If that fails try a prong collar- but be careful- it cna hurt the dog. Let the dog step into the collar to tighten it rather than yanking it. Very little pressure should be needed to control the dog. Again use the prong as a last resort.

It takes some training. Use a regular leash to start, not those extandable ones. If you use a choke collar, make sure it is not around his neck when you pull but up higher closer to his face and just correct him when he pulls by just a short tug upwards or pull, no need to choke him or lift him, and keep him close to you where you want him to walk. Of course, there will be times when he needs to walk out further so he can pee or whatever, . You can check out some training videos to start or consult any dog trainer, the Dog Whisperer website has tips and/or you can get videos or books from Cesar Millan who is great. You can also email him and ask any question about dog training and he can give you great tips.....it takes lots of patience and love. Good luck.

All dogs do this. The best way is when he starts to pull stop where you are and then wait until he comes back to you. Then give him a treat. Plan on not going for as long of a walk becaues it does take a lot of time. Kepp on doing this for a while. After your dog is more trained he will still put, but not as much and as hard.

Get a pinch collar. They work and are humane. Choke chains can crush the trachea. Gentle leaders only work when the dog is wearing them. Halters don't work at all. Use the pinch as a TRAINING tool don't use it after the dog is trained to HEAL. Don't repeat yourself. When you say heal give a pull on the pinch and bring the dog to your side. Don't get mad. If you do stop and come back later.

WHEN YOU TAKE HIM FOR A WALK THE SECOND HE PULLS YOU STOP. AND ONLY START WALKING AFTER HE HAS SAT DOWN AND STOPED PULLING YOU MAY HAVE TO STOP A FEW TIMES BUT ONCE THEY REALIZE OK IF I DONT PULL MY REWARD IS THE WALK, LETTING THE DOG PULL YOU WHILE WALKING OR TO ANOTHER DOG OR TOWARDS PEOPLE AND IF YOU LET HIM PULL YOU ARE REWARDING THE BAD BEHAVIOUR BY LETTING HIM PULL YOU AND THE REWARD IS THE WALK SEEING THE OTHER DOG OR PERSON, IF HE WANTS TO SAY HI TO A FELLOW KANINE OR PERSON HE MUST WLK AND NOT PULL AND GIVE A QUICK HELLO. AND HE WILL LEARN THAT BEING GOOD HE GETS A REWARD. A SHORT LEASE WILL WORK AS WELL YELLING GETTING FRUTRATED AND OR HITTING YOUR DOG WILL DO NOTHING BUT MAKE HIM IGNORE YOU.
AND REMEMBER DOGS DONT SPEAK ENGLISH SO DONT USE TO MANY WORDS WHEN GIVING A COMAND WHEN YOU SAY SIT SAY HIS NAME UNTILL YOU HAVE HIS ATTENTION THEN TELL HIM TO SIT REPEATING THE COMAND WILL ACTUALY WEAR THE WORD OUT AND YOUR DOG WILL NOT LISTEN TO IT

It is called a gentle leader, and you can get it at your local pet store. It teaches your pet by applying gentle pressure to the nose area when you pull on the leash. There are other methods out there, but they seem to be a bit harsh (Choke chains, etc). Both you and your dog will appeciate the benefit o th gentle leader. Remember to say "NO"before making corrections

I have a German Shepherd, and she walks beautifully beside me! what you need to get, and they make them in whatever size you need, is the training collar that has the prongs on it. They learn so quickly that you can then just use a regular collar after your dog has the hang of it. The collars wont hurt your dog, but trust me, they will not pull you along! Good luck with you and your doggie!!!

My puppy used to pull his butt off. He'd even pull so hard, he'd stand up on only his hind legs... I got him a pinch collar and it works PERFECTLY! Now, even when I don't have the pinch collar on him, he waits 'til I go out the door first, and I close the door. And he waits 'til I'm done and I can walk down 1 or 2 steps and when I stop, he stops without me even having to pull on the leash. He used to pull me down the steps.... The pinch collar works great! =)
