Does anyone know the regulations for interior designers in the state of Alabama. I have looked online and didn't really see anything. I am thinking of taking a home course and want to know if I will be able to use it. The course is Sheffields School of Design. Anyone have any experience with them?

There are no schools in my area that offer any interior design courses, so I have to do soemthing from home. If anyone knows of anything better than Sheffield's please, give me your input.

What you will get is a certificate which will mean that you cannot call yourself an interior designer in some states and that will mean that you cannot make top dollar for your services. That is not to say that you won't find employment. As an interior designer for 30 years, I can say that there are a lot of decorators out there who do not have a degree, like a BA or BS who are working. If you are looking for on-line courses, check out programs that are accredited, that is what really makes a big difference. University of Phoenix is one that is recognized and accredited. I think they even offer financial aid. Be wary of the programs advertised on TV or in the backs of design magazines. Most of the time, they really only want your money and don't teach you the principles of design you will need in the profession.

I took that course and it didn't do much for me. I would suggest going to a design school instead of a home course. I wish I had done that, You will have better luck getting into the field. Good Luck!!

You need to get certified as an ASID, or even specialize into CKD or a CBD.
