I'm clueless as to how the above answerer can assure you that BID is the norm. The biggest factor here is that you have neglected to tell us how many milligrams the medicine contains per tsp. This could be 125 mg, 250 mg or even 500 mg. Since dosing is based on weight this would be a vital piece of information. I am positive your child was weighed and this information was used to calculate the correct dose. Meantime there are times where one round of antibiotic is not enough and the infection remains to come back even worse. In that case a second round may be needed or a stronger antibiotic is needed. You need to be sure to give the medicine at the prescribed times and to give it all. If it says 2X a day that means divide the day into 2 and try to give it as close to that as possible so in this case that means every 12 hours. If you were to give a dose say at 8 AM then again at 4 PM part of your medication is lost as the body can only process a certain amount and the excess is thrown off or wasted. Good luck.

OK, what that means is every tsp or 5 ml, that is the same thing, contains 250 mg of the medication so 2 tsp equals 500 mg. Standard dosing is 10 -20 mg per pound for a child so 55 pounds times 10 is 500 which is what your are giving. A standrad course is 7 to 10 days. So, according to that calculation you are giving the correct dose.

antibiotics are based on mg/kg. Not tsp. what is the mg/ml or cc in the bottle? The average dose is 25-50 gm/kg per 24 hr divided either every 12 or 8 hours. High dose is 80-90 mg/jk/24 hrs. Just take the 55 lbs divide by 2.2 (Lg per pound) = 24.95 multiple 25 (rounded up) by mg then divide by 2. this will get you the mg they should have each dose. The label should say how many mg/cc (5 cc = 1 tsp). Did I confuse you? If so let me know I will try to claraify it....

The child needs to take the medicine for a minimum of 10 days for strep. The bottle should say somewhere on it how many days the child needs to take it right? Why don't you call the doctor and clarify. That's the best way to get your answer.

Are you talking about Amoxicillin? Generally this is taken 7-10 days for infection. Usually the dosage is 1-2 tsp twice a day depending on many factors,one includes the weight of the child.

1tsp=5cc

If you are uncertain about the dosage please contact the pharmacy where you purchased the medication or contact the pediatrician that prescribed it.

Yes. 7-10 days BID is the norm. Of course you should have asked the doctor or pharmacist.

all you have to do is give the child the meds like direction says. If they spit it up there is no way in telling how much they spit up. So you have to pretend they took it and try harder next time to keep them from spitting it up. You'll be fine. Just keep giving them the meds until gone.
