Good news! You can. Well sort of. I had an awesome cut last year. It was very much layered, with long layers in front and the back was kept spikey. I got compliments on it from everyone. Even old ladies! And a good spray for the back to keep it spikey all day was Matrix AirTrix spray. Just spray it on and comb the hairs up with your fingers. I wish I had a picture but I don't.

Get layers and do a fade like top light keep fading and end dark at the tips of ur hair.

Get tons of short layers- dye the bottom dark and the top light.
