Two similar styles, could be a good fight. I'd say Holmes for simple fact that he had a quick and stinging jab and I think has was faster afoot than Johnson. Holmes in a split decision. Another strategic fight good matchup!

That would be a very good match. Holmes is a very intelligent counterpuncher; Jack Johnson is also a counterpuncher.
Both can go the distance; both know how to pace their energies effectively. Both have tremendous heart.
Both are competitive; both know they can't be beat.
I'd give Jack Johnson a 15 round decision over Holmes. Because Johnson is slightly better defensively, he'd win the later rounds when Holmes would try to make his move.
Johnson was very elusive and through 15 rounds, he'd still just be warming up; Holmes would start getting tired by round12.

Larry Holmes would knock Jack's head clean off his shoulders. But, if everything were equal, ie Jack was a boxer in the 80s or Larry boxed back in the day, I would say Jack would win a hard fought battle.

They were both tough, wily veterans when they won the title. Larry 29 and I think Jack Johnson was a similar age when he won his. I know in the heavyweight division you only get better around about the late twenties, early thirties but Joe Louis would have held the title for 7 years when he was that age
I'd go for Jack Johnson, only because of the tough environment he lived in and the length of rounds they had to fight.

This would be a great fight. Holmes with his killer jab could keep Johnson at bay for a while, but Johnson being fast, smart and powerful and brilliant defensively would eventually get the best of Holmes.

Larry Holmes all the way. He's a very skilled boxer and the best of his generation. Don't get enough credit for beating the best boxers of his time. He'd beat Jack Johnson handily. More skillful and all around boxer.

Jack Johnson, without a doubt, and Holmes would be severely abused. Johnson was a monster...way ahead of his time.

Holmes by far the superior fighter. Johnson wouldn't know what hit him. Holmes wins by KO within the first three rounds.

Larry Holmes jab could easily keep JJ's punch and wrestle style at bay.
