We make veggie soup and clean out a large pumpkin, by cutting the top off and getting the inside clean. And then we sit the pumpkin on a large serving try and fill it up with the soup. And while the soup was cooking we make cookies in the shape of leaves and mums and decorate them. Then we place the cookies around the pumpkin with soup in it and place it in the center of the table. We use a ladle to get the soup out. Another fun thing is let the children, help peel apples or sweet potatoes and you can make fresh baked apples, or apple pie. And you can make baked sweet potatoes or sweet potatoe casserole. You can place corn on the cob on a long stick and cook it in a fire! Watch the young kids with this. It is also fune to rake leaves in a big pile and let the kids have fun!

For gifts for the children to take home we buy plain pot holders and paint the childrens hands in the center and thumb brown, the other fingers are painted red, yellow, orange and green. Then we place it on the pot holder and add eyes and feet to make a turkey. It is cute, make sure you use fabric paint.

Games, use a childrens plastic pool and place a little water then place apples in the water. Go dopping for apples. let the children pick their own leaf off the ground and do leaf rubbing. place the leaf on the table, place a piece of paper over it and rub a crayon on it.

You can buy fall ornamental leaves to use as a decoration and the kids can actually creat their own leaves to take home. Bobbing for apples is fun as long as it is supervised by and adult. Carving pumpkins and roasting the seeds is a fun activity too. Have lots of adults to help and maybe have stations set up with a different activity. Sometimes waiting can be hard for kids so its better to have an adult at each station to move things along smoothly. Oh, apple cider is good for a beverage!

If the theme is fall harvest, you could have harvest-themed food. Lots of vegetables like corn, potatoes, carrots, etc. would be good, as well as vegetable stew, for the adults. For the kids, you could have pumpkin pie, make your own cupcake, veggies & dip, yoghurt & fruit, homemade cookies.... For games, if you have a big backyard, you could have sack races, scarecrow building, an appropriately themed pinata, a scavenger hunt, pumpkin carving, etc. Inside you could have necklace beading, bracelet making (with string), picture-frame making, the ideas are endless! For decorations, you could have pumpkins, fall-coloured (yellow, red, brown, orange, etc.) balloons and streamers.

Some $ stores have fishing games. Get a kiddie pool and fill it with water and get a Sharpie (permanant marker) and write a # on each fish. Get some toys (party favors) at the $ store and put #'s on the bag that match the ones on the fish and put prizes in them. Some $ stores also have pinatas
