The Manassa Mauler vs. Smokin' Joe. Imagine the gate for this fight! It would be incredible. Both guys styles were similar alot of upper body movement constantly stalking their opponents, both had a good chins(although both had been knocked down in their careers). Where Dempsey had the edge was he could throw devastating punches with each hand, Joe was known as being a left hooker. I think both men would absorb huge amounts of punishment and the fight would go the distance with Dempsey winning a unanimous decision.

They were both very aggressive, always going forward type fighters. They weren't that heavy either of them. Frazier I think could absorb the big punches that Dempsey would fire and by the same token I think Jack was pretty tough too. I would go for Joe Frazier holding the edge over Jack Dempsey but only just. They both had a tough child hood and were very brave men so it would be close.

Dempsey - W 65 (KO's 50) TF 82 - W pct 80% - KO pct 61% - wins over J.Williard and L. Firpo - KO'ed Fireman Jim Flynn - 7th greatest puncher of all-time - 16 greatest fighter of all-time.
Later became a referee
*** To all you Ali haters, it is alleged that Dempsey was a draft dodger in WW1 (he hid out on the docks).

Frazier - W 32 (KO's 27) TF 37 - W pct 86% - KO pct 73% - wins over Bonavena, Quarry{2} Ali, Foster and Ellis[2] - KO'ed by Ali and Foreman[2] - 29th greatest puncher of all-time - 42th greatest fighter of all-time - 1964 Olympic Hwy wt gold
His fight trilogy with Ali may be the best in history
He should have had more fights.

Every thing about Dempsey says that he was a better fighter than Frazier. I think Dempsey's lack of experience with black fighters would hurt him. Frazier by a majority decision.

I can see a fight trilogy here, much like Frazier/Ali. Both big punchers. I see Dempsey winning two of the three. All fights go the distance. Dempsey wins two by unanimous decision, Frazier wins one by split decision.

for sure, we are talking 2 large combatants with similar sorts. nonetheless, Dempsey weighed something round one hundred ninety pounds, at the same time as Frazier replaced into in the route of 220. If that is a aspect on your wondering, take Frazer. Thirty pounds is a lot to perceive a fighter. If I made up a itemizing of significant heavyweight champions in words of ability, Dempsey may be slightly higher -- fifth or so -- at the same time as Frazier nonetheless could be round 10th to twelfth.

Frazier wouldn't last past the 5th round. Dempsey would destroy frazier, because we all know Frazier just stands there and takes a punch.

Joe Frazier would win by tko on late rounds. He could fight all night long and has beaten the best of his generation. He's a very skilled boxer that can absorb punishment.

I'd say Frazier (at his best) would have the edge over Dempsey. Dempsey wouldn't fight African American fighters so that tells me his heart wasn't that strong.
