You wouldn't want to ride one down to begin with, BUT, if you do wind up not being able to get off, and you'll experience this a few times at least on the way up... it happens.... They will stop the lift if you can't get off, OR there's a safety lever/bar you'll hit with your feet if you stay on the lift that will shut it off.

well dont worry it is not scarry. i went on one when i went to colorado , we rode the ski lift to get up to the alpine slide. it was a long and high ride but the chances of you falling off is very slim because you have a bar that goes in front of you

No, you can't ride a chair lift down. Why don't you start out on a rope tow or a T-bar?

Don't worry about it. Just hold on to the bars and lean back. Don't sit on the edge, make sure your butt is right against the bar on the back.
