First of all, please, NO illegal drugs, it's gonna drag you down more. It'll make you in a much worse, worse situation then what you're going through at this very moment, so NO NO No illegal drugs!

I'm glad that you are able to identify your problems. You're just steps away from a new life!

Allow me to remind you a small portion of the quality in life: When you go home from work/school your family greet you and offer you a 7Up; You and your friends hanging out in a restaurant then a movie having good time; you and your best friend talking over the phone for over 2 hours or more... playing sports, studying togeter...

I work as a member of a health care team. Although I don't work directly with psychiatric patients on a daily basis, I am willing to help and offer you some advice.

As you know, Bipolar is a condition that makes you Hyper and Down all the time; not just the regular change of mood but it's Sudden and often times uncontrollable and you aren't even aware of it.

The Doctors offer you Antidepressant because according to research and statistic, Depression causes more suicides and makes you not productive, it takes away your motivation on doing anything and... you either want to sleep all the time or cannot fall asleep at all. Antidepressant keeps your spirit up, helps you to think about positive things, helps you to stay alert on the environment and helps you think better. This is how the medicine works.

What do YOU think about YOUR situation? You need to think about this Yourself! Your doctor may help you stay more alert so you can Think better, you may speak with a Nurse or Counselor, a friend, or significant others... even Yahoo! Answers! We can ONLY listen to you and you WILL need to make the final interpretation of the situation and Solution to YOUR problem.

Illegal drugs like cocaine or heroin WILL NOT HELP. They will make your lose control of yourself and who knows what you will do under influcence? Driving and getting caught? Sleeping with someone and got/getting someone pregnant? It's gonna add more burden to the problems you already have, enough.

Enough is Enought, Right? Pray to God who died for us, for our Sins... Find a way out! Exercise, eat healthily, and visit a church. Let them know your problems. I'm so sure that there must be someone in a church is willing to help. If not, find a Seventh-Day Adventist Church (where I attend) and be Honestly tell the pastor your problems after the Sermon. Ask them to help you... I assure that you'll have a Much better life in a very short time if you choose to change.

Again, Congratulations that you realize your problems. NOW is the Time to make the Decision... You ARE the ONLY ONE in controlled of Yourself. Not your Doctor, Family, Friends, nor me, but Yourself.

I am very willing to help. Feel free to email me if any questions!

Illegal drugs can worsen the situation. You really need to look for a doctor who will listen to you or else start insisting that your doctor work with you to find better meds. I've always taken a mood stabilizer for my symptoms and I came across this information:

Antidepressants treat the symptoms of depression. In bipolar disorder, antidepressants must be used together with a mood stabilizing medication. If used without a mood stabilizer, an antidepressant can push a person with bipolar disorder into a manic state.

Mood stabilizers include such medications as Neurontin and Lithium. These help with the mood swings and mania associated with bipolar disorder.

Also, I found something on NAMI.org

"Medications used to treat depression. During depressive episodes, people with bipolar disorder may need additional treatment with an antidepressant medication. Because of the risk of triggering mania, doctors often prescribe an antidepressant only after the individual is already receiving a therapeutic dose of lithium or an anticonvulsant mood stabilizer.

Research suggests that mood stabilizers can protect against antidepressant-induced switches into mania. Antidepressant medications relieve depression, elevate mood, and activate behavior, but it often takes three to four weeks to respond. Sometimes a variety of different antidepressants and doses will be tried before finding the medication that works best for a particular individual."

Is there a mental health center nearby? They often have psychiatrists on staff who can help with medication decisions. The doctor you're seeing may not be knowledgable about bipolar disorder so it sounds like you'll need to find a better doctor.

Quality of life is very possible and I wish you all the best.

I assume you are talking about managing the manic phase of your bipolar disorder. Antidepressants can help to "bring you down" but I assure you, illegal drugs or even alcohol will not make your situation better. In fact, it will make it much worse especially if you end up with a chemical dependence. Then you would not just be working on solving one problem but two. Trust me, I've worked as a mental health nurse and it's very common and sad that people with psych problems end up using illegal drugs. You have to make your doctor understand that the medications you are currently on are not adequately helping you with your problem. Maybe you should go to another doctor. If you have one that isn't listening to you, then you don't want to be under their care in the first place. There are many other drug combinations out there that you can be trying to help with your symptoms. And there are also many free resources out there if you have a low income and cannot afford to see another doctor other than the one you have. I really feel for you and your situation. Good luck.

look i know how you feel . i use to smoke weed too. after 13 years i realized it was only making things worse. as far as any illegal Drugs go . they will only make things worse. you think your mood swings are bad now wait until you start doing drugs and get hooked on them and then
run out . and cant get more right away. or run out of money. i can't even put into words how much worse your life can get. you need to keep talking to your dr. keep trying different meds until you find what works. it just takes time . but you WILL find the right meds hang in there a little longer. good luck and god bless.
and think about this . if illegal drugs really helped. they wouldn't be illegal.

Look for another psychiatrist and get into a treatment program. There are meds out there that will help, but it does take some time to find the one that will work the best for you. Meds won't do it alone, you must get counseling.

Illegal drugs only make things worse. I know a woman that decided to go that route herself. She ended up divorced, jobless, childless (her daughter was removed from her care) and went looking through all the switchplates and electrical outlets in her house because she was convinced her exhusband was video tapping her. uh, it wasn't pretty.

you're taking those meds and you nonetheless have those probs in all probability you will have the finished exams for bipolor by utilising way of a specialist.. ~~~~~Cyclothymic illness~~~~~ is characterized by utilising way of continual fluctuating moods correct to intervals of hypomania and melancholy. The intervals of each and every depressive and hypomanic indicators are shorter, much less intense, and don't upward thrust up with regularity as experienced with bipolar II or I. even nevertheless, those temper swings can impair social interactions and artwork. Many, even nevertheless no longer all, human beings with cyclothymia develop an greater intense sort of bipolar illness.

Depending on the illegal drugs you are considering, you could make the situation worse. Also, addiction is a serious risk that can ruin your life. Bi-polar is treatable. Tell your doctor the meds you are getting aren't working. Don't give up yet.

if you have bipolar as a formal axis I diagnosis then anti-depressants are the WORST thing to take as they will trigger a manic episode... the difference between bipolar and depression is the bipolar has manic and depressive episodes and the psychosis occurs during the manic episodes (in depression there is only depressive episodes usually and the psychosis is concurrent with depression)... the treatment of bipolar requires mood stabilisers (lithium is one of the older drugs)...

do NOT take recreational drugs and try and self medicate... rather see a doctor and tell them frankly what you're experiencing

I'm Bipolar and I stopped all of my meds in August 2002 and started drinking wine instead when I get stressed, once I stopped caring what other people thought of me I became much happier.
