Its not that I expected a gift at all...its that so little thought was put into the process. Why bother even buying me a card if I am in the store with u. Certainly he could have MADE time to purchase the card without me. We do not live together and we have been going out for 8 months now. Yes he remembered the date all by himself...cause I would not have reminded him at all. The question is do I say something to him? And if I don't say something how is he ever to know that this upset me. And if I say something, just how do I say something without him thinking it is the gift that counts....cause it is not the gift that counts...but the thought...and that is why I am upset...because such little thought was put into it.....

It sounds as if he has (its the thought that counts) phrase in hes head .
Have a word with him by all means because hes not trying enough hes just satifying hes own ego by getting you something and then easily passing it on to you without any effort. Times like these should have hes hole heart in it and if not why is yours ?.
Get him to go out and get you something he feels you would like but not give you any idea what it may be if not refund your man for a gent they are out there (good luck you deserve more from him)

I'm not too sure exactly what angle upset you most about this but I'm going to assume that it is the fact of the 'element of suprise'. You see these actions as something he should suprise you with, not do it infront of you...because that in some way takes the fun out of the whole thing....Just let him kno...'baby, I love it when u suprise me...this card is so sweet..but I would have loved it even more if I didn't already know I was getting it..you kno what I mean?' Let him kno the simplicity of placing the card somewhere that you could find it..or doing all those things in private and have them sent to you or give to you at a later time...if he get upset..tell him ask any girl..even some guys...he'll get the same opinion...

OM...the guy is CLUELESS!! sweety you pretty much got to take them to the store, show them what u want, put it on hold in your name, and tell them to go and buy it if that is what you want. And he probably totally forgot it was your b-day....guys have no sense of time or dates, most are not even organized to keep all of their stuff in order (have way to much experience in this department...LOL) next time just circle the date on the calendar and write what is soo special about the date....trust me he is not going to remember. Thank god for PDA's.....LOL

If it bothers you, then you should talk to him about it. It would bother me. Phrase it in a good way though. Tell him you like when he surprises you, for instance. That maybe will promote more surprises and less hey here's the card I'm buying you, see it costs $2.50.

well not really, maybe buying the card while you were there wasn't the best thing to do, but at least you got one:)) as for the rose i think it's always nice to get a rose or flowers for any occ. and just look at it this way, if he didn't care you wouldn't have got nothing!

You are quite spoiled!!! He may not be the swiftest, but at least there is SOME effort being made. Maybe next year he'll spend your b-day hanging out w/ HIS friends.
