I am ready to send a dispute form for a derogitory report on my credit and I'm down to 2 choices. Its a charge-off for a vehicle and it falls out of the repo SOL; however listed on my credit report is a last payment date over a month AFTER the vehicle was reported sold to another party.

So which letter do I send?

One referring to the Repo or validate the correct info?

Actually....The date is a HUGE factor.
the vehicle was regisdtered in early 2000 and it was repo'd in late 2001. So the last payment was probably late 2000 or early 2001.

My opinion (which you already know) is to send the repo letter series that I had recommended.

Cover your butt by sending those letters, then concentrate on getting it removed from your reports.

++++++++
lol Bob

I didn't mean to sound snippy, sorry

Be sure to get the Car Fax report on the vehicle also.

All of the dates, from the Car Fax, your credit report and on the required notices they were supposed to send MUST match!!

Ask for a validation of the debt first...if the company reporting the repo doesn't respond with in 30 days it will be deleted from the credit report. If they do respond and do not update the date then dispute the item with any evidence of the very last payment that you may have. Also, check out creditboards.com for lots of helpful information.

I assume you are only disputing the date because it will disappear from your report one month earlier, after the 7 years eclipse. Not that big of a deal. I wouldnt waste my time if I were you. Your credit is basically dead for the next 7 years anyway, and the date change wont change that.

Don't be discourage from folks who believe your credit is dead.
As was mentioned, send your "validation of debt" letter.

Chances are the debt cannot be verified 5 years after the fact and will get deleted from your report. The company you purchased from may not even still be in business. Generally, old files get archived after two years and will be to much trouble to verify. My point is, anything can happen in five years.

Send one referring to the repo then if it doesn't work send the second one validating the information.
