I think strict you mean we have to pray 5x a day to thank and remember God, fast one month out of the year to cleanse our souls and be more consious of God, to have modesty and cover ourselves, to not steal, to not fornicate, to not lie, to not back bite, to do good and forbid evil as much as we can....I think you are linking doing a lot of good to please God with being strict. We have guidelines on how to pray, fast that we must follow. To simplify it is so that people do not invent their own ways of the religion and there are not many sects, or different belief systems.

The strictness of Islam depends on who is practicing it. Some people follow the Koran to the letter but most do not. The same as with Christianity.
However the current focus in western society to Islam and especially militant Islam emphasizes the tenets of Islam that seem strict or extreme to most Westerners. I suggest that you do some research on Islam and try talking to some Muslims. I think you will be surprised at how similar it is to Christianity and the variations in how it is practiced around the world.

It might seem strict in today's era (specially in the West), because life has become so materialistic & immoral (i.e. people have become lost). Islam a very complete religion (covers every topic) & is actually a way of life; a person's guide to life (i.e. manual) is Judaism & Christianity revised, & God's LAST Message (Guidance/Warning) to Mankind. It's actually less strict in most things than other Monotheistic religions (e.g. Punishment for a cheating wife in Christianity is Death; Islam prescirbes a 100 lashes in public, to ensure that such a shameful act doesn't happen again). I strongly suggest you ask more questions to an Islamic scholar, or at least have a Sunni-Muslim friend. Feel free to visit your local mosque or read the Quran's English translation (available online & at your local library). Good luck to you ...

..and you are passing judgement on my faith..I am sorry but you are not minutely qualified to pass judgement ..your question should not have started .with the word WHY

Islam isn't strict. It is exactly what the religion was when it was introduced ( apart from the extremists who have changed it). If you look at any religion, including Christianity - a lot of the religions have changed over time, to accomodate the change in the mentality of society as a whole. I am sure if you look at any religion at the time of it's conception the rules are "strict". The only difference is Islam has stuck to the rules, there has been no change at all.

Most religions attempt to set guidelines for how their followwers should behave on earth, so that they can achieve eternal happiness in the next life. All attempt to control behavior, some more strictly than others. Some people consider Catholicism strict, others find Orthodox Judaism, strict, while others feel the same way about Islam. It comes down to a matter of your personal beliefs and faith.

In almost all of the countries where Islam is the dominant or only religion, the people are dirt poor, and the countries are over-crowded. Compared to Christianity, Islam is more of a government type than a religion. Leaders in those poor Islamic countries use the religion to keep the people under control.

Strict? humm... I am a muslim and I don't feel that way. I guess what you mean to say is that why are there so many rules. Well the main reason is to protect the rights of others from you. Secondly what is strict and what is not varies from one person to another according to what kind of life they have led so far. There are many aspects of Islam. Though I can think of many things that might appear to be strict but if you confine yourself to what exactly you find strict, it would be much easier to answer.
We believe the Quran to be the word of God. And he must have good reason for all His commands. And how can we conclude that the Quran is word of God? A few arguments are given in this article

Islam is not strict at all, from where have you got that idea? The Bible goes for the Muslims too, to begin with. Secondly, in the Koran there are some ground rules which some cuffs (Kuffs) don't know about, because they can't read or maybe not are thinking at all, I do not know. There are no compulsions in the Koran, it is recommendations to live a decent live and to be to a benefit for all mankind. Read the Koran carefully and with an opened mind - and please do not read it letter by letter, read and think about what the message is about, like when you are reading the Bible.

I presume you don't know Islam very well. Islam is not a strict religion. If you look in to it's rules and laws u will find it has very strong reasoning behind to as why the rules were made in the first place. What makes u think it is strict?
