The first Mustang was built part way through the year 1964 and was labeled a 1964 1/2 Mustang. The new model year begins in the fall of the previous year so the FIRST 1965 Ford Mustang was built in 1964 but that is not what you asked. The 1965 Ford Mustang includes many units and they were built throughout the end of 1964 and through most of 1965.
