Because there are more words in the Bible that were written or spoken by Paul or John than by Jesus.

Bible-believers see all words in the Bible as being equal, no matter who wrote them and no matter who is speaking. So I suppose that if Jesus had more words in there they would pay more attention to them.

Silly, isn't it? You'd think Jesus' words would trump anybody else's.

Not really, it so happens that we are now living after Christ and chosen apostle like John and Paul were witnesses to all what the Lord has said. We are living by the power of the Holy Spirit which happens to be the third person in the Holy Trinity. We based it on what is the truth. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Nothing contradict to this.

"All scripture is given by inspiration God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." II Tim 3:16-17
The words of Christ are contained within the words written by the apostles..Paul, and John(&others). But you must know that they are ALL the words of Christ. The Bible says in Jn. 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." So you see... Jesus IS the Word of God. So Do not feel bad about more focus being put into the apostles "word" they are all God's words...he just used different vessels to express them. Think about the old testament...it is all the Word of God, but yet Jesus spoke none of those words in his fleshly body. Hope that helps.

Ps...wish I could give a lesson on dispinsationalism here, it would be long and I am not sure that it would help ...maybe it would...Jesus came to set up his physical Kingdom, the Jews rejected that...so he appointed Paul, to offer the spiritual kingdom to the gentiles(everyone else). Maybe this is for another day. Check out some good teaching on biblical dispensations. (fancy words for "the way God deals with man and his sin at a particular time in history")

Why do people like you generalize about a group as large as "Christians"? Why do you care where we place more emphasis? It's our beliefs - not yours. You believe what you want and I'll believe what I want. My beliefs are not hurting you.

And I DON'T put more emphasis on what Paul or John said - I put more emphasis on what is written in the Bible. Who do you think Paul and John were writing about in the Bible? They wrote about Jesus. They described His teachings. They described His way of life. They spoke His words.

Because Christianity is based on doctrines. Christians have to refer to apostles like Paul and John to establish that Jesus was a historical reality and that the gospel was indeed the word of God as told by Jesus to these apostles who themselves are a historical reality. There is lot of stress on establishing the antiquity of Jesus.

Errr, how did you figure that out? Christians take their name from Christ, and everything flows out of that, but in Paul's defense I say he said "Follow me for I also follow in Christ's footsteps" and he was serious, so yeah we do take his word, anything wrong with that? I don't know what you mean about John, but I am sure he comes next best after Christ... Answer me this: "What did Jesus say that Paul or John or both have cancelled? And then I will oblige to think about that.

um... no...i haven't noticed this....particularly....Jesus is quoted alot in the 4 gospels, and the implications of what Jesus said are expounded upon by Paul and others in the other books. the whole new testament is considered sound doctrine and useful for teaching..there are no contradicitons between what Paul says and what jesus had said.

I've noticed this and it does perplex me. Jesus is LORD, not John or Paul?

Paul drew some poignant conclusions, and John was one of the innter circle of disciples, but Jesus' doesn't speak from opinion . . . He knows.

Do they? Paul and John were the writers to this dispensation, the church age. Jesus Christ came to the Jews and much of what He said applies to them.
