Do yourself a favor and CHUCK ATKINS!!! It's dangerous and you'll gain all the weight back -- with interest -- once you get off the diet. Carbs are ESSENTIAL to your diet, although some carbs are better than others. Want to lose weight? Just take a common-sense approach. Don't eat when you're not hungry, don't stuff when you do eat, drink lots of water and tea instead of soft drinks of any kind, including fruit juice (they're loaded with high fructose corn syrup, which is the father of all dietary evil), cut way back on the fast food, junk food, refined flour/sugar, saturated fat, and trans fat (the MOTHER of all dietary evil), and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, lean meats (fish and poultry are best), eggs, lowfat dairy products, and whole grain breads/cereals/pasta. Here's a tip: Olive oil, which is high in monounsaturated fat and is very good for you, is also a natural appetite suppressant. Try taking a tablespoonful before each meal. And keep that fiber level high, say, 25-30g of fiber per day from your diet. Fiber fills you up and also helps your body get rid of the "bad" fats. Good luck!

There are multiple problems with this:
1) Carbohydrates, by themself, do not make you gain weight.
2) You want to lose weight, so you have tried Atkins, but you didn't say whether you are doing anything else along with that.
3) You have not said how much weight you are trying to lose, how much you weigh, how tall you are, what state of physical fitness you are in, etc.
I'm not trying to beat you up here, but my point is this: there are many things to consider when you are losing weight other than just what you are eating. The myth that carbs are all that make you fat is the newest in a long line of "lose weight" fads that have been going ever since mass communication was possible. Yes, that's right, women in the 40's used to try funky diets to try and get slim too... guess what, they still had to go back to good old burning it off.
Any real nutritionist will tell you that you NEED a certain amount of healthy carbs and fat in your diet along with vitamins, minerals, and lots of protein. A lot of current diet studies suggest that if you want to lose weight, you want roughly a 60/20/20 percentage mix for your diet. That is, 60% proteins, 20% fat, and 20% carbs. This in conjunction with a solid workout program, 30 minutes or more every day of activity that builds a sweat for at least 10 minutes, will help you lose weight and tone up. The most important part though, is the working out part.
Losing weight without excersize is dangerous. This is a simple fact... if you are losing weight without actually burning off excess carbs and fat, then what you are losing is only partly fat and carbs, it is also muscle tissue, water, and often enough a lot of the vitamins and minerals that require a balance in order to properly process inside your body. My suggestion (I was a nutritionist in the military by the way) is this:
I am assuming you are just wanting to lose a little weight, 10 lbs or so, something that can be done in a relatively short period of time, say 2-3 weeks safely, depending on your body type.
1) Stop drinking anything other than water, milk, and fruit juice. Don't worry about the fat content of the milk, milkfat is healthy for you, and the more fat that's in it, the more protein that is stil in it as well as vitamin content. Make sure the fruit juice is "mostly" natural juice(s), and not flavorings.
2) Eat smaller meals more often. If you are the type of person that really only eats 1 or 2 meals a day, you need to change that immediately, eating regularly helps the body maintain metabolism and regularity, and helps to process the nutrients that the body needs more efficiently. Try to eat "something" in the morning, a yogurt, piece of fruit, small bowl of cereal... something healthy and with carbs and protein. This will help start your energy cycle in the morning. At lunch, have something with lots of vitamins, and something that is good for digestion... salad with chicken on it, tacos with lots of lettuce and onions and tomatoes (preferably not fast food, less grease the better), fruit salad, these are all good. For dinner, make sure you eat something with lots of protein. This is assuming you will be doing your workout at night, if you do it in the morning, then switch the morning and evening suggestions so that you are eating your protein before you work out. Chicken and rice, Well cooked steak with the fat trimmed, turkey sandwich with lots of veggies... even peanut butter sandwiches are good here. The important thing is to make sure you don't do the same thing every day, because you will burn yourself out eating the same thing all the time.
Good workouts for just losing some weight are things that include a lot of constant activity. Sports, running, swimming, repetitive excersizes, etc. The idea is to sweat as much as possible... don't worry about "building muscle" because that will happen a little bit just from being active.
Anyway, I hope that helps.

stop the atkins diet!!!! if you're feeling ill that means the cholesterol from the protein rich foods are getting to you. atkins works in the short term, but it'll give ya a heart attack in the long run.
you can lose weight and still eat carbs. carbs give you energy. the reason why carbs cause weight gain is if you eat alot of carbs and dont exert energy, then the carb turns into fat in your system.
the number 1 way to lose weight is exercise and eat a low calorie low fat diet, no matter how many carbs there are.

Carbs don`t make you fat or make you lose weight. There are no hard and fast rules in this matter. It depends on to many factors. To loose weight you have to restrict your fat intake to the absolute minimum. You may eat(provided your metabolism is healthy and you are active) one pound of pasta 5 times a day provided you do not add any fat to make a sauce.Diet fad sellers make a packet because they don`t tell you to cut out the fat content of your food. The tell you to cut your carb intake which makes your body starve. You do loose weight, true. When you reach you ideal weight you stop the diet because you are tired of it.Count the calories.Avoid carbs. It is all bull dust.Fat makes you fat nothing else. Anything that contains less than 3% per volume total fat is considered fat free.No dietitian worth her salt will tell you to restrict your carbs, UNLESS you are diabetic or suffer from syndrome x .Want to know more email me.

Try first 60 carbs per meal If that isn't low enough you can always go down to 30 per meal. But you need to exercise.

yes... depending on what you mean by carbs?... it's better to have a balanced diet that includes carbs... and depending on what you're aiming to do the proportion of carbs you consume varies... rather work out how much kilojoules you require in a day... and then work out a diet accordingly
