Ok so no killing right? would you rather have your dog limping and peeing everywhere cause it can't move howling in pain at night ect. so that he/she can have a "natural" death.
and to say that animals have no souls is to say we are not animals and after that thought i get lost in your logic. if we are like on other being on this planet then what right do we have to call it ours.

who's to say we are more important than anyother animal on this planet. they have given up all that we have in order to keep a balance with nature and all seem to want to do is distroy it. they can live without us, but we can't live without tehm. i'd say they are more important.

think wha tgives us life and makes each one of us unique?? most would say its a soul, right? well if we (a living thing) need a soul to live why doesn't any other living thing? if my dog has no soul why should i need one. by that i could say we don't have souls, its just a way to make us feel closer to a fake god. if we do have souls then anything with a soul including my dog deserves the same treatment and vise versa, right??

you're talking about euthanasia right?
i agree with you. it is a double standard. those suffering through something when the end result is death should be allowed a choice.
by the way; not all cultures insist on prolonging the life of the dying.

Maybe a hospice would be better - as much pain meds as you like. Pot has also been a very useful substance for pain - California has some laws that allow this. Look into THAT first.
That being said, if someone was serious, and wanted to end their life, I'd find out the legal ramifications, maybe do it in some other state or jurisdiction, and go there. I would not let them kill themselves, it would be better that someone, with their consent, euthanize them - I have certain spiritual problems with suicide. You might want to consult your and especially the person in question's religious leader.
Where the lawyers draw the line is between them, philosophers, and God.
May God be with you both, may God be with us all.

first of all i don't consider an animal as an important thing because it is not going to heaven so don't say that thwy are to die in peace. No they are on earth to keep our company some are good and some are bad because Adam and Eve sin thats why evil things came on the earth and some of these species they harm us right so i wouldn't kill my friend if he was dying but people kill the animal if it hasn't got a treatment or it's just stinking up the place and he\she is really sick the animal and the animal is on the verge of dying so the person gets upset and kills it don't get upset wether we like it or not it's going to happen.

It is the worst double standard imaginable. We jail people for allowing animals to suffer but jail people who help other people end thier own suffering.
it's absolute madness!
Look at the mess that the christian idiots made of the Terri Schiavo case. CLEARLY this woman was brain-dead. Anyone with more than a teaspoon full of brain matter knew that. But that did'nt prevent Terri's parents from making millions from the fiasco.
But hey, maybe that's what they thought Terri's last wishes would have been, to let her prolonged and continued suffering be parlayed into a media circus designed to make her parents rich...

the life of a human is a little more complicated and important than the life of a dog so I dont think you can compair the two. But I see your reasoning behind it and I think it is a good point. This is one of those subjects that people will NEVER agree on. Hospice is designed to help patients be comfortable during the end of their lives so I think that is a better option than just choosing to help someone die.

The term "double standard" applies to two equal parties, such as men and women. Humans and animals do not have equal status in our society. It is illegal to "help someone die" and there are a lot of good reasons for that. Ethically, it is a much more difficult question, and it won't be settled here.

I've always wondered the same thing. Personally, I believe in "An ye harm none, do as ye will." The only way I could see it working out is if euthanasia actually caused harm to stop... but it's such a slippery slope, and I don't know if anyone can ever know what the correct answer is.

Actualy I believe if you are in the Hospital and are suffering more being alive than dead if you chose they should be able to give you a shot like they do dogs to end your life but only if you chose and if it is in a situation where you are suffering a lot I don't believe you should kill anyone or someone should kill themsleves because they have depression.

I believe that to end someones life prematurely is playing god. Perhaps God still has a purpose for that person. As for animals I believe that if possible the animal should be kept comfortable until it passes in peace.

It isn't okay to kill your dog, but these a**hole humans believe that there lives are so much better and more important than those of other creatures. I believe that all lives hold the same value. But I don't think that its okay to help someone end their life, its stupid to want to commit suicide anyway, but if that's what someone wants, leave it to them, don't you get involved. or else fingers will start pointing at you.
