This was a response to another's question re: "Do you think that some people just can't and never will be Christian?"

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtKFdTnkNrdH8b3E_e5KEOXzy6IX?qid=20060808121320AAGhihq

Does anyone else see this answer - "God just doesn't want some people" - as being elitist, prejudiced, and hypocritical?

And doesn't this contradict the philosophy of free will?

So those who are "Christian" don't choose to believe, but they are chosen by and wanted by God?

Anyone who is not a "Christian" is not chosen and unwanted?

Wow - of all that I have read on Y!A and all that I have experienced in my life, I think that this statement truly solidifies my refusal to be a "Christian".

But I am relieved to know that it isn't my choice - it's just that "God doesn't want me."

Take a deep breath zendude, visualize Mother Theresa...is that what you believe it means to be chosen? It should. Many are called, like most of us Christians, but few of us are chosen to live like her. I don't mean to imply you're stubborn, I just don't think your were born for that. I wasn't either. That doesn't mean you are not loved, and it doesn't mean you are not wanted by God.

zenhighway,
That was me, thanks for the e-mail. It alerted me to the fact that you made a post on the subject. I am humbled by the attention.

There are many views about God that are out there that are meant to please people. Some build their entire philosophies and religions upon that kind of thinking. In order to place themselves as important upon the list of things God has in the Unverse.

"Does anyone else see this answer - "God just doesn't want some people" - as being elitist, prejudiced, and hypocritical?"

If I was to place myself as important in God's universe, it would be nothing. But if God chose me, it would mean eternal life with Him.

"And doesn't this contradict the philosophy of free will?"

"So those who are "Christian" don't choose to believe, but they are chosen by and wanted by God? "

I still have a choice, I could refuse Him in favor of going my own way, but rather I choose Him.

"Anyone who is not a "Christian" is not chosen and unwanted?"

That's not what I said.
I ws chosen long ago, but I did not accept until I was 24. The choosing is from His side of the deal. The accepting, that's your choice.
It's true that God does not want some people. He called all people, but chose a few.

"Wow - of all that I have read on Y!A and all that I have experienced in my life, I think that this statement truly solidifies my refusal to be a "Christian"."

You have already made the choice. You just have to understand it. (Sorry to get all 'oracle' on you!) lol

There are scriptures throughout the Bible to support this Ideology. Those that the Father wants He draws. He drew me. I responded. Those that have no interest in coming to Him don't have the Father drawing them. Each person has his own relationship with God and has their own responsibility to come to Him. I cannot decide for someone else (sorry Mormons).

I will list scriptures that support this in the sources.

Wow, you are really heated up about that statement! It was not a nice thing to say. In all reality, the Bible says that it is God's desire that all 'men' come to an accurate knowledge of him and do his will. Unfortunately, most people reject God, not vice versa. They don't want to live by the standards that he has set out for all of us. Even though all of these laws or standards are for our own protection. There are some of God's laws that people have no choice but to obey, such as the law of gravity, but all of the other laws he sets out are just as beneficial for us.

Please do not judge all Christians by the statements of a few, and don't assume that those so called "Christians" represent God or his son Jesus Christ.

Well that just blows the image of a kind and loving deity right out of the water. Most say their god is kind and gentle.. in the church I was made to attend as a child god was jealous and vengeful - brimstone and fire.

I do not need to be 'wanted' by something I do not believe exists anyways. I have enough self-esteem to be past that kind of dependence.

Someone messed up their answer response. Don't have a fit about it. Do you think every worshipper is on the same level or are there different levels of reception. Some people are in greater love and have better answers.

I wouldn't rely on one's person comment to decide your spiritual life.

Are you of sound mind and body? Do you face choices every day that you make decisions on? This is your choice, in my eyes.

You can either choose to search out Christianity and for a relationship with Jesus, or you can choose to ignore it and pretend that it's out of your hands.

The choice is in your hands.

God not only doesn't want you but will punish _you_ for _his_ wants by sending you to the Lake of Fire for eternity.

This is the compassionate God of Christianity, after all...
