1. Get a book or go to sites about dog types.
2. Consider an older dog as puppies are a lot of work
3. Once you have a breed or breeds that seem right go to your local shelter and find a dog of that type or a mix of types you like.
4. If you don't find what you want at the shelter search on yahoo for a rescue for the type of dog you want.

I think any dog can be considered "in door" if it's trained correctly.
You can train any dog not to be jumpy and barky (though, some say certain breeds are genetic for barking).
You may want to try a Jack Russell Terrier though.

Every dog is an indoor dog. No dog should have to be stuck outside all the time away from it's family. It makes them neurotic. If you're looking for a dog, try http://www.petfinder.com You can find anything you want on there for adoption.

I was once advised that utilising puppy pads can also be complicated for some doggies given that you might be letting them go in the a distinct part of the house and so they see it as you are allowing them to go in the condominium. I chose to not even bother with dog pads. I took my dog out each hour and after she ate. My vet mentioned a excellent rule of thumb was once to take her out each time her activity changes. If she sleeps then wakes take her out, if she performs then eats take her out. I additionally heard it helps to preserve your dog within the identical room with you at all times and that's what I did and i still do, my dog if 12 weeks historic and doing very well with potty coaching!

You can do a search for the kind of dog you want by size and other things. You can read the descriptions of the dogs to see how their temperments are.
