Could be a sugar glider you are talking about?
If that's so, check it out here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Glider

G'day CLS,

The animal you are after is called an aye-aye. The Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis) is a primate native to Madagascar that combines rodent-like teeth with a long, thin middle finger to fill the same ecological niche of a woodpecker. It is the world's largest nocturnal primate, and is characterized by its unique method of finding food; it taps on trees to find grubs, then gnaws holes in the wood and inserts its elongated middle finger to pull the grubs out.

Daubentonia is the only genus in the family Daubentoniidae and infraorder Chiromyiformes. The Aye-aye is the only extant member of the genus; a second species (Daubentonia robusta) was exterminated over the last few centuries. It is classified as an endangered species.

I have attached some sources for your reference in writing the report. You might also want to look it up in Wilson, D. E., and Reeder, D. M. (eds) Mammal Species of the World, 3rd edition, Johns Hopkins University Press. ISBN 0-801-88221-4, 121.

Good luck with your report.

Regards
