I'm not 100% sure but I would assume, something with a higher frequency than the radio's. I have XM and I know when I pass under some power lines, it gets fuzzy. If you have just a radio, then if you are traveling too far out of range, through the mountains, maybe the radio is too close to your microwave.

Your cell phone can......I have a radio on my desk at work...and right before my cell phone rings.....the radio make some strange noise.......it even does it if someone elses phone in the office is going to ring.....weird.....
