Because they can't smoke cigarettes! Ha! Or is the joke, why do roosters crow after they mate?
I think you notice them a lot in the morning because there aren't as many other noises competing with them to drown them out. But they crow all day if you wanna sit around and listen for them (which I don't recommend.) And they crow at night if you wake 'em up--try to be quiet in the dark!

firstly- they don't just crow in the morning. They crow all day long if they feel like it.
Crowing is a territory thing. It's the rooster saying that these are his hens and he's in charge. If you put two roosters in a pen with hens, only one will crow. The other is subservient.

They crow all day, but mainly in the morning and at night like lots of birds. The crow is the same thing as other birds' calls or songs. It is used to attract a mate or as a territorial threat toward other males. Birds are most active in the morning and at dusk. If you listen, you will hear all different types of birds "displaying" at those times.

Ive lived in a farm formerly, and a crowing hen is organic, and is surely a good alarm clock, yet it relies upon on the type of guy or woman you're, in case you like waking up early, or waking up previous due, in case you prefer to awaken previous due, then a hen could be very annoying.
