"Diet sodas (also diet, sugar-free, or light soft drinks, refreshments, or carbonated beverages) are sugar-free, artificially sweetened, non-alcoholic carbonated beverages generally marketed towards health-conscious people, diabetics, athletes, and other people who want to lose weight or stay fit." basically meaning its a beverage that gets all its sweet flavoring from the artificial sweetener. since the only thing soda has that counts as calories are carbs from sugars (the other calories in food come from proteins and fats, neither of which a soda has) and since there are no carbs in a drink made purely with artificial, no carb sweetners, that means there are no calories.
