My joejoe is like my son, and he is so loyle to me it is really unbelieable. He was on his chain in the back yard when, also dang it my wife was back there in the garden,he bit a child when she tryed to pet him while his bone was down by her too. He just nipped her but I know it hurt. About a yr later he did the same thing to the gls mom when she was petting him in the house. Should I have got rid of him? The Vet said no, to just be more responsible with him when we have company. What do u think?

My dog is very nippy too.my dog is 14 now and my son is 12.My dog has been nippy from the day I got him and they are both still here.I had to be carefull.I feel that if the dog is mean it would already have draw blood without warning.Never trust any dog with kids when there is food around. Also chained dog is more on the defense because thats its territory .I would try to find a way to change some habits so that the dog and the child are not around eachother. If you can. try not to leave food laying around.these are all ideas .I have three kids and two really old dogs and they will nipp.Work with your dog.If you have to kennel the dog before comany comes. You can either keep the dog away from other poeple or socialize the dog more go one way or the other. What ever you feel will work out for you and your dog.good luck

i could absolutely connect a community obedience software or search for suggestion from a behaviorist. Nipping isn't unavoidably AGGRESSION besides the undeniable fact that that's not a reliable ingredient both - your canines would have had undesirable previous reviews with little ones, could no longer were socialized to little ones, or could merely be apprehensive. How did your nephew frame of mind the canines? How did he attempt to puppy the canines? replaced into the canines asleep? replaced into the youngster frustrating in any respect? some dogs do unlike being petting on the properly, as achieving over is a dominant or threatening gesture. previous reviews would have made palms a painful ingredient (fantastically small palms, as little ones are not continuously the most smooth.) Or the canines would were startled. till you workout WHY the canines acts this way i'd not do a ingredient - mistaken coping with of the habit can make issues worse as there are diverse options to react or respond to a nip.

There is no reason to put your dog down. The reason he nips people is because he's protecting his property (ie his bone). He must have felt threatened by the little child sitting so close to his "treat". Next time you have company when the dog is around, make sure he doesn't have any of his treats or toys around.

If that doesn't keep him from nipping, you may want to think about a muzzle when company comes.

Keep him, but be wary. Never let strangers near him, and definately take him to behavior classes. You might want to invest in a soft muzzle that you can slip on when people come over. You need to train him not to nip, but make sure you do it with positive reinforcement or the nipping will turn to biting. The dog behaviorist can help you with that.

Good luck!

Don't get rid of the dog. The incident with the child was just the dog protecting his bone. Dogs are very territorial when it comes to food and treats. Dogs can get moody just like humans do. If a dog doesn't like someone and that someone tries to pet the dog then it will try and bite. One of my dogs was this way with one of my husband's friends. No matter how hard he tried, she would not like him. Every time he tried to pet her she would snap at him. Every time he came around she would sit in front of me and growl at him. She knew I didn't like him and I finally told him to stay away and if my husband wanted to hang out with him to do it anywhere but at my house.

No, you shouldn't get rid of him. If he's been an otherwise good dog, I would say that you should just keep children and strangers away from him and find out what it is that sets him off. You might be able to train it out of him too! Good luck!

I wouldnt put him to sleep just because he niped someone. But what caused him to nip them is where I would start from.. You might have to put a muzal on him when you have company.. Just for you sake anyway.. what breed is this dog?

no i don't think that u should get rid of him. dogs do those kind of things, yes it is sad to have a dog that bites but u can always train it. just try to supervise the dog when around other people.
