it depends on the dog my cocker spaniel has papers but he wouldn't sell for much

It would all depend on the lineage. My mother bought a Rat Terrier from a private breeder for $200 pet stores sell them for 3 times that.

It really depends on where you live. Anywhere from $100 to $300. Just look in the local papers and see what they are selling for. Then charge a little less because he/she is not a puppy anymore and thus a little less desirable.
Is he or she spayed or neutered? If not, be really careful on who you sell the dog to. You might wind up selling the dog to someone who will just breed to dog for profit until the dog dies from exhaustion. Not a good life for a dog. Ask any potential owners to fill out an application (you can find good ones online from animal rescue sites, and just modify it to suit you) and provide vet references. Ask to see the fence the dog will be in to be sure it will contain the dog. Make sure you pick a good home and not just any home with cash.

Rat Terrier puppies go for around $400, so a 1 year old would be less, unless it has been trained for competition or is a show dog.

Go to www.puppyfind.com and it shows you what everyone else is getting for them. That way you are not being riped off and not selling too high. A good way to make a good price offer you will not bargain down on.
