I am going on the idea that your request is legit.
I suggest you contact the Patient's Advocate at the hospital where your mother gets her treatments. A Patient Advocate will work with the patient and family to find ways to pay for medical treatments.
Some hospitals have programs to help patients with limited incomes. The patient will need to fill out forms indicating income and other sources of $. Ask at the hospital.
If your mother is over 65, Medicare will take care of some of the expenses.
As in all of these cases, the money will not go to the patient, but to the hospital and doctors providing treatments.
