Part of me is a little weary because she is insecure and selfish. Part of me still wants her around because she's a good person despite her flaws..

Help!

If you see her as insecure and selfish, it's very unlikely that you will be able to be friends with her.

It's really best not to be around insecure, selfish people. They may have good points to their personality, but those two flaws trump any positive things about them. Insecure people drain their friends emotionally, and selfish people can not be trusted.

Make other friends. Just let this one go.

Been there brother. Short answer is, no you can't be friends. Not at first anyway. I broke up with my ex-girlfriend last Septemberish, and we stayed "friends". In reality we were really dating without the title. If you want to get over this girl, you need to cut off contact for a while. After the feelings have dissipated then give friendship a shot.

If you want to get over her then you shouldn't be friends. The easiest way to get over someone is not talking to them or seeing them. I personally don't think I can be friends with my bf if we would ever break. Normally when someone breaks up with you or vice a versus they are hurt and don't want to speak to that other person. I've felt like that before. Good luck!!

if you had a relationship where you were best of friends more than lovers it is possible to maintain the friendship side of the broken relationship, But you both have to be thinking at a much higher level less the petty fights and squabbles.

I think it's hard to stay friends after breaking up, unless both people are mature enough to realize they aren't right for each other. Then there would be no hard feelings over the breakup, and it would be possible to be 'just friends'.

don't think you'll be friends. Not after one of you is dating someone else seriously. It might be an issue for the other 'half'.
