I agree, Deviled eggs are always gone at the end of the meal!
In my opinion, this is one of the best deviled egg recipes that I have come across, and I have tryed many. To make things quick I just mix everything in my small food processor.
12 hard-boiled eggs
1/2 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing (I like to use Miracle Whip for this!)
2 tablespoons milk or half-and-half cream
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried chives (or use 1-2 very finely chopped green onions in place of dried chives)
1/2 teaspoon ground mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

24 deviled egg halves

25 minutes
Slice the eggs in half lengthwise; remove the yolks, and set whites aside.
In a small bowl, mush yolks well with a fork, leaving no small lumps.
Add next 10 ingredients (adjusting to suit taste) mix well to combine.
Evenly fill the sliced whites with the egg yolk mixture.
Sprinkle with paprika.
Cover tightly with plastic wrap.
Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
*NOTE* the eggs are better if left to chill for at least 5 hours before serving.

Dad's Favorite Flank Steak

There's something about marinated flank steak -- it just looks, smells, and tastes spectacular.

4 tablespoons canola oil
1/2 can(or 12 tablespoons) concentrated chicken broth (lower sodium if available)
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup lower-sodium soy sauce
4 green onions (the white and part of the green) cut into thin, diagonal slices
1 teaspoon ground ginger (or 4 teaspoons fresh minced ginger)
2 teaspoon garlic powder (or 4 teaspoons fresh minced garlic)
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 medium-large flank steak (about 1 1/2 pounds each)

Combine canola oil, chicken broth, honey, soy sauce, green onions, ginger, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce in a medium bowl with a whisk; set aside.
Remove any visible fat from the flank. Lightly score the meat with a serrated knife, cutting about 1/4-inch into the meat in a crisscross pattern (leave about an inch between cuts) on the top and bottom of the flank.
Put the flank in a rectangular plastic container, add the marinade, and coat the steak well all over. Cover and marinate the flank steak all day or overnight, turning occasionally.
Grill 10-15 minutes on each side or until cooked to desired doneness. Use a carving knife to cut diagonally across the grain of the meat into slices of your desired thickness.I like mine thin.

Apple Pie Crisp

They'll hardly notice there isn't any crust.

Crisp Topping:
1 cup walnuts
1 cup unbleached white flour
1 cup whole-wheat flour
6 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 tablespoons no-trans-fat margarine (melt in microwave or small saucepan)
6 tablespoons maple syrup, pancake syrup, or light pancake syrup

Filling:
8 cups cored and thinly sliced apples (pippin and Granny Smith work well), firmly packed
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoon apple pie spice
4 tablespoons unbleached flour

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Coat a large baking pan/ cassurole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
Toast the walnuts by spreading on a pie plate and heating in oven until fragrant (about 7 minutes). Chop the nuts medium-fine.
Combine the flours, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Drizzle the melted margarine and maple syrup over the top and blend on LOW speed until crumbly. Add the chopped nuts and mix well. (The topping can be prepared up to a week ahead and refrigerated.)
Put the sliced apples in a large bowl. Add the sugar and apple pie spice to a 1-cup measure, then pour over the apples and toss. Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons flour over the apples and mix gently. Pour the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
Spoon the topping over the apples, pressing down lightly. Place the dish on a baking sheet (if necessary) to catch any overflow. Bake on the center rack of oven until the topping is golden brown and the juices have thickened slightly, about 35-45 minutes.
Serve warm with light vanilla ice cream!

Hope this answers your question. Laura

Um cole slaw of course...but something more fun might be some sort of dessert like Key Lime Pie, or cookies or anything like that. But if you're not liking the desert thing, meatballs are always great, as is Potato or Macaroni Salad. But I recommend meatballs, personally. Especially if you get buns or watever to make sandwiches. Quick, easy, and delicious. All you have to do is make the balls, put them in the crockpot, and wait for them to cook. A very easy dish to make.

Turkey. Very inexpensive...feeds many and most people like it...and it's a nice change to have it in summer months when normally it's associated with fall/winter months & holidays. Roast it without the stuffing...and instead have a fresh garden salad, corn on the cob...and a cranberry jello salad...nice summer dishes to compliment a roast turkey.

Italian Turkey Burgers (from cooking light)

These messy, robust burgers are just as delicious and satisfying as a meatball sub. To remove sausage from its casing, cut the casing lengthwise with kitchen scissors.

Cooking spray
4 cups red bell pepper strips
2 cups green bell pepper strips
2 cups vertically sliced onion
1 1/2 cups fat-free Italian herb pasta sauce (such as Muir Glen)
12 ounces hot turkey Italian sausage
12 ounces ground turkey breast
6 (2-ounce) whole wheat hamburger buns
3/4 cup (3 ounces) shredded sharp provolone cheese

Prepare grill or broiler.
Heat a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium-high heat. Add bell peppers and onion; sauté 10 minutes. Add pasta sauce, and cook 1 minute or until thoroughly heated. Keep warm.

Remove casings from sausage. Combine sausage and turkey in a large bowl. Divide mixture into 6 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch-thick patty.

Place patties on a grill rack or broiler pan coated with cooking spray; cook 4 minutes on each side or until done.

Place 1 patty on bottom half of each hamburger bun; top each patty with 2/3 cup bell pepper mixture, 2 tablespoons cheese, and top half of each hamburger bun.

Yield: 6 servings

Personally I keep getting asked to bring homemade things like bread/buns or deserts

But if I am hosting I usually have something like Sheppard's pie or meatballs and gravy or cabbage rolls lasagna things that can be prepared ahead of time and quickly heated up so that you don't spent all your time in the kitchen.

For family I make seafood chowder - even if I'm making a large dinner for them to eat earlier in the day.

For both friends and family I usually make caramel apple cheesecake.

Deviled eggs for sure. that was my first answer, as well as pasta or potato salads, or brownies. For soemthing a little more nice, try a salad. For friends, anything! Salad - goat cheese & dried cranberries and romaine, with walnuts = excellent.
