i had my appendix out in 7th grade and i'm now a sophomore in college. my scar has lightened up a lot. so i'd say give it time, and it will definitely become less noticeable. but if you're really that concerned about it, try mederma or cocoa butter; those are supposed to be good scar treatments. good luck!

It's best to wait a year before doing anything on scars. You'll also have to find a good artist as scars don't absorb ink as well and a special technique is used for tattooing them. You might have to have it tattooed twice to get the color right.

There are products at pharmacies for reducing the appearance of scars, Some are in the first aid aisle and some are in the skin care aisle. I think one of them I saw on tv is Palmer's cocoa butter serum, it's supposed to work on scars as well as stretch marks. Good luck.

There is this over the counter medicine that you apply to your scar, it takes about 6 weeks for to start seeing some results but it works. I'm sorry I don't remember the name but if you go to your local drugstore I'm sure they will set you up.
Don't worry too much about it, it will fade away just give it time. You can always go to a a plastic surgeon and ask him for a stronger prescription medicine.

Mederma will help lighten them. Over the next few years they'll reabsorb on their own. The hard part is being patient while that happens.

scars are great! They give you character. Don't be ashamed, make up a cool story about it, like you got in a knife fight or had a c-section.
