I really do not think that the eating problem and his desire for a female are linked. If a male is fertile he can begin mating with a female at the age of 6 or at the time he reaches maturity. As far as registration goes, the AKC requires that a male be 7 months old before you can register a litter from him.

If you are not planning on breeding your male then it is wise to have him neutered. Neutering reduces the chances of reproductive cancer by 15% in males and 25% in females. If your not going to breed then have him neutered.

Normally, a male will whine when he sees or smell as female that is in heat, much more so then just seeing or smelling a female. Are you sure that his whining is just for females or is it just a result of seeing another dog which is very common? My guess is that he is just excited to see another dog and wants to interact with them. By the way, your dog's hormones peak a long time ago. Even as puppies who have not yet reached maturity, between the ages of 4 and 6 months old, they will start mimicking the motions of a mature male and mounting females and other males.

My guess is that there must be a ***** in heat somewhere close by. All male dogs react in a similar manner when they smell the hormones of that female. Dogs all around your neighborhood are reacting the same way. Don't worry about it. Just watch him carefully so he doesn't climb the fence and escape and make more unwanted puppies. The best advice that you can take would be to have him neutered. That will help with all the problems including unwanted puppies.

According to wikipedia,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Shepherd_Dog
an alsatian (not alsatiOn) is a German Shepherd. If your dog is really 2 years old, then he definitely is old enough to breed. There may be something the vet can advise for alleviating his response to hormones, including of course, neutering. If you don't plan to let your dog father any pups, then you can make his life easier by having the vet neuter him. Else, I would think your vet could give you best advice on other options.

Why do you say your dog is too young? Dogs don't have the age limitations that we people do. If you intend on breeding him, let HIM decide when its time. Otherwise, get him fixed ASAP.

2 years old is not too young to breed...males can breed at 6 months...if you dont plan on allowing him to do this then never let him breed at all (it ruins a male dog) and take him to the vet and get him fixed.....

2 years is the perfect age for mating. Why would you think he's too young? How old do you think he'll get?

There is no "ingestion of drugs" for this, there is SPAY and NEUTER, that solves the problem and lets your dogs be happy and healthy pets.
