My Yellow lab is 12yrs old and she smells awful, most of the smell comes from her private area. We tried getting baby wipes and cleaning it everyday but she is getting tender in that area. We visited the vet and they gave us some wipes but they dont work at all. She is just to old to be doing surgery on to correct the problem. Any ideas what I should do?

Sometimes a smell around there is a sign of cancer, if she is not fixed she might have ovarian cancer.. but just try to keep her clean I guess, she is very old it, I hate to say it but it might just about be her time to go ... I had a German shepard male who started to smell really bad, and about a week later he went into his dog house and went to sleep and he died.. It was sad but they do know whenit is time to go, they will give you signs..Hope this help and my prayers are with you and your loving pet.

Go to another vet. She might have a yeast infection that isn't clearing up, or her anal glands could be blocking up. Neither of which are fixed by surgery. Shame on your vet for only handing you some wipes and not checking for medical causes.

I am happy that you still love your old dog even as she gets older... They do appreciates what you do for them.. really. Make sure that you bath her every 2-3 months(NOT every day as that is not good for a dog), and make sure that she gets MOSTLY dry dog food rather than canned.

By the way.. here is a great WEBSITE for the care, etc of OLDER dogs.. It is a great site even though it is LONG:

mist your dog with a mixture of one cap full of Avon skin so soft and water in a spray bottle. Message in. Smells good and keeps fleas away
