so i'm allergic to iodine, which causes me to be allergic to shelfish...last week i bought a meal replacament bar that listed 35% iodine as a part of its vitamins and other benefits...should i throw it away just to be safe? i don't have an allergic reaction to iodized salt but when i eat shelfish i have a very serious allergic reaction...what should i do?

Allergic responses to salt iodization are rare. It is thought to be because the salt contains such a small amount of iodide.

I highly recommend that you throw out that replacement bar. The iodine in the bar probably came from seafood products since they are the natural source for iodine. This means you would have a very serious reaction to it. It just isn't worth it!
