I'm going to find somewhere away from the city lights and hopefully weather willing we get to see some shooting stars from the Perseid meteor shower. How can I make it romantic and fun? We're in our early 20s btw

Wow! That in itself is a good experience. You have chosen something different than the old "dinner & a movie". I commend you for that. Well, I don't know much about astronomy, but would binoculars help? And bring 3 blankets. 1 for the ground, another to go on top of the 1st in case the grass is damp & another for her in case it gets chilly (bring chairs too maybe). Umm . . . a flashlight in case you have to walk from the road that way you can light the walkway for her. Hope it's wonderful!!!

What fun! We've done this with our young son, who's interested in astronomy. And it occurred to me that it'd be a great romantic date activity.
My own preference would be to make it a kind of night-time picnic -- blanket or other covering to spread on the ground (assuming you're going to a park or meadow somewhere), basket of things to nibble on, appropriate beverage (Moet et Chandon champagne would be ideal, as their base-level bubbly is called White Star), and the like. Get a nice wicker picnic basket, prepare some finger foods that don't require a lot of intricate preparation, and have a midnight picnic.
You might want to bring two blankets, one for under you and one for over you if it gets chilly. (Yes, you could just remind her to dress in layers, but snuggling under a blanket looking up at the stars is something I would make a point of doing on a romantic date.)
You will want to bring a low-powered flashlight in case you need to see something in the dark, or for finding your way back to the car, but you won't want to use it much so your eyes stay accustomed to the night sky. (Tip: a red light affects your eyes much less in a dark environment.)
You might also want to bring a star chart of some kind, not because you'll need it for the Perseids but because it's fun to identify constellations and planets while you're waiting for the meteors. If there's a Nature Company or a Discovery Channel store, you can probably find either a glow-in-the-dark star chart, or one that you can use with the low-power flashlight in short bursts.

First off I have to say how sweet. my husband has never done anything that romantic. Ok, now that thats said, take a blanket, some wine/champagne, a small picnic, and some candles if they will stay lit. I would absolutley melt if someone did that for me. Hope it goes well for you.
