Fat is cute and, as we have learned with humans, it can be deadly. Overweight cats can develop diabetes, can't groom themselves properly and it stresses their bodies as they age if they develop some kind of arthritis.

So I feel it is best to keep the cats on the trim side. Feed high and good quality protein, not food loaded with corn. Corn is used to fatten slaughter animals who only have at most a two year life span.

Trim is 8-10 lbs for most female cats and 10-12 pounds for most males.

Look at the wild cats on TV and the zoo animals (who are fed a diet of raw meat). You will never see a fat one!
