the only reason i have not been to the dentist is because i don't want to appear like a hysterical mother and last time i called about a problem i was made to feel like this. i am hoping someone out there is a dentist, dental nurse or may have some sound advice please.

one of my daughters incisor teeth is coming out. the actual tooth is totally out of the gum but is hanging from some flesh and the root from the inside of the tooth. it looks as awful as it sounds and looks as though it is not going anywhere soon. there is no way i could pull it out because it is so attached. please help....

thanks for all of your answers so far...they are very reassuring. please understand that the tooth is no longer in the gum and it is literally hanging out by the root...:( i think the dentist is the right move in the morning.

first off, good move, you are officially a hysterical mother. that said, tie a 3 foot piece of floss around the tooth and let the kid yank it out. i'd bet that in the hour that has passed since you posted this that the tooth is already out. if it's not, you can put some oragel around the tooth to numb it up a little. remember, this is a baby tooth coming out, not a spleen.

Can your daughter wiggle it herself, or may be bite into an apple? Both these things should help the tooth on its way so you don't need to see a dentist. It sounds as though they weren't very sympathetic last time. If the two options don't help then you might need to book an appointment.Good luck and don't panic!!!
Unless your daughter is in pain there really is no need to see your dentist, unless you want to.

Get her to eat a snow cone or a cone of custard and then ask her to wiggle her tooth with her fingers while she is really cold.... if you can't do it yourself.

If she was a REGULAR patient of mine (not a stranger) and you came to see me this way, I'd have the tooth out in about 3 seconds (for free) and nobody would be any the wiser. "1, 2, (pull) 3!" If necessary, I would put a dab of stuff on there to numb her gums, but it probably isn't even needed.

I am a dental assistant in FL. It's ok... Sometimes teeth just take a while to come out. If the looks of it are bothering you, then take her in and ask them to pull it out. Otherwise, just leave it alone and eventually she will play with it so much and move it that it will pop out when you least expect it. If it won't budge, DON'T pull too hard. The permanent tooth that is coming in behind it will eventually push it horizontal a bit, then out completelly. Allow her to eat whateer she wants though. Hard foods will help.

If it is a milk tooth it will come out in its own good time - leave it alone. If it is a permanent tooth then she needs to see a dentist.

I assume it is supposed to be coming out ?
give her an apple to eat or something that will help shift it. If it is sore give her some paracetamol first

My daughter who is 11 yrs liked to wiggle hers when they were loose but when one was stubborn she bit an apple.
It'll fall out eventually if left but the more attention you put on it the more your child will back off and fear it.
If it is very loose it really should be removed before she goes to bed due to the choking hazard...good luck !

Yuck - go see someone, without a doubt! If they make you feel silly just ignore them. You are a concerned parent and there is nothing wrong with that at all!
