Try downloading "Spybot-search & destroy"....it's a free download & I'm fairly certain it will take care of it if you use it

run Spybot. You can download this free software at www.downloads.com
When that happened to me, I also had to run Microsoft Spyware Beta. If you can get a hold of that, then run that.

After that, (for experienced users), go to your registry and search for "spysheriff" and delete any keys that have that in it.

Finally, I ran Adaware, which is also a free download from Lavasoft.

After doing all that, spysheriff went away.

Probably not a virus, but a spyware claiming to be a virus so you will virus scan (and not remove it) rather that spyware scan it.

Download and run both Ad-aware and Skybot Seek&Destroy (both free at download.com). Between them they should remove the spyware.

Don't download anything. the best way to do this is system restore. Remember the day before you obtained the virus. go to start. run. "msonfig". enter. click launch system restore. follow the directions and find the day you didn't have the virus. This is the best way. You won't lose any files, only system preferences. Believe me.
