Is there really a taste difference from the non-caffeinated beverage to the caffeinated one?

My understanding is that caffeine tastes bitter, which is why caffeinated beverages need so much sweetener. Did you ever hear how much sweetener is in a can of Coke, for example? It's to kill the taste of the caffeine.

Non-caffeinated beverages wouldn't need as much sweetener, then. This would account for the difference in taste.

Stay away from caffeine. You don't need it.
