Almost every religion makes similar claims. If you don't follow it you are going to suffer, and if you do you will be rewarded. None of those promises can be proven, and most of the things in the holy books aren't plausible.

If you're looking for a quick fix, I could see the comparison. You don't lose weight any quicker (IMO) with diet pills than you do with good nutrition and regular physical activity.
You also don't see miracles overnight because it seems that for the most part they don't happen overnight. Now how much of what does happen is the work of God and how much is the work of the individual who finally suddenly somehow found the strength to do what he couldn't do before is the great debate. Did God give him that strength? Did he finally realize that no one was going to do it for him?
Thing is, God is faith, any way you slice it. It's not science, where you get the instant gratification of solid proof. It's the willingness to believe that things can and do change or will ultimately turn out for the best, even if it's not YOUR preferred best. Whether you choose to slap the God label on it or anything else, that's basically what it boils down to.
Best pop culture example I can think of is Bruce Almighty. In the film, Bruce gets the power to do anything he wants, and works miracles left and right, but finds that if people automatically get what they want, they lose the lessons and value of the process and the journey of getting it, which ultimately wind up being more important than the thing itself.
Maybe there is no such thing as God. Maybe there are no such things as miracles. And yeah, I think you're wasting your time if you expect to pick up a Bible and have everything turn hunky dory tomorrow. But there's still this important process of experience, of finding the will to keep believing even when life really sucks. Truthfully, to me, when that happens, it's a miracle in and of itself.
But that's my take.

If God worked "miracles" in our lives all the time, at our every whim, we would want for nothing. Everybody would be very rich but not have to go to work, feel great but not have to do anything to maintain good health or take any precautions. We could "walk on the wild side" throw fate to the wind, and never suffer an adverse reaction. We could just pray about it and "bingo" all would be just fine. We'd be sure that God will work a miracle in our life and we would suffer no adverse effects. Kind of like God telling us that our wish is His command. God (Jesus) did preform miracles and they are recorded in the Bible. People will tell us that "it was a miracle" that one thing or another did, or did not, happen. The greatest miracle God gave man was forgiveness of sin--the way to salvation, something we don't deserve and can't secure for ourselves. Read the Bible, especially Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Ephesians, and see what I'm talking about. Note: It seems odd that when something goes wrong in our lives, we complain and blame God. But when good things happen we seldom thank or give God any credit.

well the reason diet pills probably dont work on people because they are fake or the PEOPLE just cant control themselves and loose control. You seem very hard headed to be honest, but I think if you would stop trying to think like the diet pill people, you will realize that your alive today obviously, your still breathing, you have money to pay for internet and maybe other things..... those are just the small miracles in your life right now and its sad that you dont realize it, its a miracle just how are country is still holding itself together, and how no wars are being faught on our land. so i suggest you read the BIBLE and you will find 100's and many more miracles. God performs many miracles daily, you just dont pay a close attention, maybe you should try it, you'll learn something out of it.

My experience is that God does indeed work miracles, but not in a hocus-pocus take-a-magic-pill sort of way.
When we let go, even a little, of our own selfish desires, God does the rest. When most people pray, listen to them -- they have the gall to tell God what to do! "God, bless this person, bless that, do this, do that, keep us, keep them, don't let my 140-yr-old great-grand-mother's dog die, etc."
Or they bargain or try to negotiate, like God is some sort of kidnapper, "Show me a sign, and I'll (fill in the blank)."
When we get out of self-will and into God's will, every second is a miracle. And that starts with an authentic heart of gratitude, not of judging or testing.

Like any relationship, it has to be worked on and taken seriously. You cannot expect God to be listening 100% of the time and helping you out unless you call on him. Term "Squeaky wheel gets the oil" and you cannot lose weight on a diet pill alone, it takes exercise and eating right.
If you have faith and perseverance then you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. But it's always nice to have "the big guy" in your corner to lift you up when you fall.

To some extent you are correct. It works like this. You have to choose what works for you. Odds are the diet pills work for some people, and not others. Religion and Spirituality are the same. The diet pill vendors want you to think that their product will work, because they want to sell you over priced pills. Bible thumpers want to push their religion on you for reasons I really don’t understand.
Zen Buddhism works for me. I don’t have to believe in anything except myself (GOD is optional in Zen Buddhism). For the next person, perhaps Christianity works. For another person it may be something else, that makes them feel good about themselves. After all why to people skydive, paint, hang-glide, or dive in the ocean? They do it to make themselves feel better.

God, is like the good father who allows his children to hurt themselfs so they learn what is good and right vs that which is bad and painfull.
A good father will let a child burn themselfs SLIGHTLY to learn the stove is hot, the car door hurts when its slammed on your fingers, and stubbing a toe teaches you to lift your feet when you walk.
Like a Good Father, he has a complete spiritual Hospital for those who realize they're hurt and want to be made well. Being made well means you're gonna have some scarring from the experience but at least you can carry on.
