"On an island with 1,000 people, you inherit the land containing the only source of fresh water. What do you do?"

Green Party:
Have everyone contribute five percent of their income for the year to run a pipe to their own home, and the same five percent for each additional home or business you own. Everyone shares the water equally and the rich don't get to build football-field sized pools without paying a dime, nor do they get one extra drop of water to fill these pools as long as the poor are still dying of thirst. They can fill their pools only as long as they provide a livable amount for the poor, and not one drop sooner.

Democrats:
On paper they'll try to look like they're almost as benevolent and concerned as the Green Party, but only to get votes. Behind the scenes, they'll be selling their influence to let the really poor people and the homeless do without so that they can give the rich enough to fill their pools and water their lawns. As long as the cash comes in, "everybody's happy," the middle-class and the working class get to pay for all the pipelines, but they don't know that.

Republicans:
They do the same things as the democrats, but first they canvass the neighborhoods and infiltrate all the non-democratic churches and all the places rednecks hang out. They track down all the non-democratic church people and tell them that Jesus wants them to do this and that they'll get a little extra in tax-breaks and Salvation if they go along. After all, everybody else is a godless Communist with no morals or ethics.

The rich will not pay for a cent of the cost of the pipelines but they'll have full control over them and it will be deregulated for them and they'll pay no future taxes, nor will their children after they pass on.

And the republicans will eventually make somebody angry enough to blow up one of their pipelines. It doesn't take long before they decide this is actually a blessing in disguise. So they pull out the flags and Jesus and trick everybody into going to war for them so they can steal everyone else's water, too, and drive the prices sky-high on it. Unlike with the democrats, almost everybody knows to one degree or another, but everyone is too scared and feels too powerless to do anything about it. Especially the people who helped them from the beginning.

The republicans just keep all the profits and don't spend a cent keeping the reservoir clean and they just keep dumping more and more sewage and industrial waste into it. Eventually, everyone dies, but at least twenty or so die very, very rich. The rich go straight to Hell, do not pass "go," do not collect $200, and everyone else goes to limbo or Heaven. We get to meet Jesus and all those really nice folks from all the other religions, but we sort of miss some of our richer friends just the smallest bit.

The end.

Build a distribution system and sell it for 1 to 5 cents a gallon to the people on the island. I would then bottle the water and export it to the states and sell it for $2 for a 20 oz bottle.

Make a binding deal with everyone that you will allow each to have the water, with in reason, that they need, but anyone else that moves to the island has to find other own water or bring there own water. Assuming of course that you own the water rights.

Depends on how precious that water is. If it "goes away" after use, then I would privatize and charge for it. However, if it is a renewable source, I would let the people have at it for drinking nad living purposes.

Since water is a necessity for life I would make it free for the people and sell it to the companies because corporations are not people and use that money to pump the water.
