Americans have strange ideas when it comes to measures. Firstly, their gallon is smaller than ours so a quart is going to be smaller. An Imperial pint weighs in at 20 fl ozs so an Imperial quart is going to be 40 fl ozs. However, I seem to remember seeing somewhere that an American pint is 16 fl oz. As they themselves are wont to say, 'go figure'.
