how can you fly a confederate flag and not say it offends people white/black?

that war was in like 1860 to 1865 or something......i live in the deep south....we lost!!!! as did the nazis etc....i had family that fought in that war on the south's side.......but its history.......with all the hate in the world shouldnt we stand together!!!! what would god say about the civil war/all wars.....we need to look at ourselves...i have played football in all levels up until college.....and i couldnt imagine driving to a practice supporting a rebel flag in the face of a white/black/any teammate....those are the friends you remeber till you die!!!!!!

Because despite what you learn in history class the Civil War wasn't about slavery.. it was about the states' right to govern themselves and not just do whatever the federal government told them to. I think most people who fly confederate flags know it offends people, but are trying to make a point that the confederacy is nothing to be ashamed of. Yes we had slaves but so did the north and many European countries around that time. I can understand why people find it offensive but I wish there was more understanding about what really happened. Its how its currently being taught and handed down that breeds all this hate around it.

for starters, you dont know squat about history. the war wasnt over slavery, it was over states rights to govern themselves. Side note, Robert E Lee, The main generial for the south, freed his slaves before the war ever started. His family home is Arlington, yes the nationial cementary. The rebel flag is about souther heratage, not a race issiue. It is what people use it for thats different. Should we ban the cross because of the crusades? And also, there where blacks in the confederate army too. As for what would God say, if you study more you would see there have been more wars over religon than any other reason. Rebel flag for a school, Maryville, TN Rebels are a top state team.

If you ever been down south which it seems you have not, you will see even blacks flying the confederate flag. They see it as apart of there southern culture. Personally I see it as a flag of defeat and disunity of the country, how can you fly the flag that represented breaking the country apart?

The flag itself is a part of history as well, if the redneck hicks of the world want to fly them that should not be a problem. It should only become a problem if they go messing with people.

The south fought for slavery...how the hell can you hang a flag that represents that? I don't see any nazi flags flying.

The conf. flag is a symbol of rebellion. Has none of ya'll ever rebelled against anything before.....any color person...now think hard....I say all of you have. That's what that flag is about.
