In business one writes with either blue or black ink. Other colors are not accepted. Thus, if you write in red and turn it in for school, or did a report in business with red or any other color besides blue or black, you would rightfully be considered ignorant. Courts of law use only black or blue.
You might like to write in red. Sending a note to friend is fine in red as well as jotting down your personal notes. But don't expect to taken seriously by the world at large if you deviate from the internationaly accepted norms for serious work.

It isn't considered ignorant to write in red ink, but it is considered inappropriate except for special cases.
Largely, red ink was used by accountants to show a deficeit, blue ink was used for regular notations. Hence the saying, when you run out of money, that you're "in the red". Later, teachers began using it to mark student papers, so their comments would stand out clearly from the material written in blue ink by the students.
Today, it doesn't much matter what colour you write in -- there are pens in every hue of the rainbow -- but some colours are still easier on the eyes than others.
Does that help?

Writing in purple ink might now be seen as thoughtlessness of behalf of the sender incredibly than being impolite or undesirable mannered. Years in the past whilst ledgers have been stored and have been written in the two black and purple ink. Black for debit and purple for credit...'Being interior the purple' which means you owed money to somebody for a purchase order or service rendered. And before owing money grow to be seen to be a stigma and to three make greater desirable this stigma stills apples. So except you comprehend the guy ok, why no longer follow the norm however in case you're sending Christmas enjoying cards why no longer use certainly one of those colored ink pens which you could purchase. which will sparkling up the subject as quickly as and for all. And for good and for daily letter writing use a dismal ink. So incredibly than upset somebody we in maximum cases deliver correspondence written in darkish or blue ink. Edit: yet another component only take a glance at your Mum's or Dad's face in the event that they get a utilities bill come by using letter field. whilst they open it and in the event that they look worrying likelihood is it relatively is written in purple ink which means an incredibly final call for word.

I have just thought of this just now. I think it is because blood is red and it is considered bad luck to write with red ink, just as it is rude to stock a stamp on with the Queen's head upside down. Very interesting, I shall follow what all the others say

Red ink used to be used in ledgers indicating debt. So, I wouldn't want to indicate debt by writing in red ink. However, I believe it is acceptable to write in red ink on Christmas cards. I don't find that offensive. Also, nurses on the night shift used to write in red ink, day nurses in black or blue and second shift nurses in green. That has gone by the wayside in this computer age, though. Hope this helps.

In Chinese culture, it's a very old tradition (modern people may have forgotten this) to write a letter in red only if it's a letter to break a friendship. It's also the priviledge of high officials to write in red when reviewing legal documents. So it's not a color for regular people's regular writing.

When I was at school it was so you could tell the teacher's remarks and scores from the pupil's work. I had a lecturer who said he hated writing in blood, so I suppose the symbology of it is an issue as well. In nature, red is the symbol for danger, so I guess this is part of our resistance to it.

I don't think it is a question of being ignorant but it is not considered polite. Red is traditionally used by the proof reader (or teacher) to correct someone else's mistakes and gives the impression of chastising the reader. It is used because it contrasts with black or blue.
