It hasn't been that long ago for me, but I see a huge difference in how kids are now. Honestly I think that lack of discipline is a huge problem, but parents are not really allowed to discipline their children. Authorities stepped in because there were too many parents that didn't understand exactly what discipline meant and this led to abuse instead. It's sad, and kind of scary for our future, but what can you do when your kids are in control of what you do?
Personaly I refuse to allow other people to dictate what I do and found that removing priveledges works well, but that is just not true for every parent and child out there.
I have a lot of fear for my children when they get older and have to be around kids who are 10, 12, 15 who are doing some really horrible things that most of us were doing in our 20's or later.

It all depends on how you raise the kids. Now a days this generation is alot worse, because the parents are alot younger and not as experienced (no offence to teen parents, but keep it real) I raised my kids the way I was raised. So just because the generation is headed in a different direction, doesn't mean all kids have to follow that. Raise them to be respectful and whatever and that's how they will be regardless of how thier friends act. If your kid has good teaching, they will do it with or without you.

The children now days are the worst. I am in my late 30's and when I was young if you were down the street doing something you had no business doing and an adult caught you they would scold you, possibly spank you (YES spanked by someone other than our parents) and then send you home and before you got home they had already called your mother and she was waiting for you on the porch with a belt and you got another spanking and if you were lucky enough to have a father in the house you got another spanking when he got home.
We wouldn't dare play in the street and not move when a car came, we would never talk back because we would either get backhanded or our mouth washed out with soap. We had RESPECT for our parents, elders and the law!!!! We knew what the value of a dollar was, did what we were told to do with no back talk, helped out neighbors without being told.
Don't get me wrong we were no angels but we were a lot more respectful, appreciative, productive & thankfull than Generation X.
This generations kids have over worked parents, terrible role models, under paid parents, TV shows kids being wild & disrespectful and made light of it and you kids think it's ok when it is not. Video games & computers have made kids lazy, we played out side and made up our own games. Kids now days are over weight, lazy and think they are supposed to get everything they want (check out my Super Sweet 16) and be brats to get it. Kids today think they do not have to work for good grades, do chores or clean up after themselves.
Now I know this does not apply to all kids there are some good ones out there.
Parents have to do better & the kids have to do better so we can have a generation that IS better...

Kids today are much worse. Kids get worse every generation and part of the reason is 2 generations ago if a parent "whipped" their kid and left welts everyone thought the kid must have been really bad , 1 generation ago they talked about the a hole who did that to his kid and today it is reported to CPS. I am not saying that this is necesarily a bad thing but kids have lost some fear of adults. Also they live in a world where they are exposed to more than they should be and that is bound to effect them in negative ways.

I don't know that I would use the word "worse" however I do think that the kids of today are less respectful than when I was a kid. I think the reason for this is that in today's world most families have to have both parents working just to 'make ends meet' and therefore children are getting less desperately needed attention/discipline....

I don't think that you can generalize and say every kid from every generation are "more" anything than the other. I think that there have been kids out of control in all eras, and like some have said, it depends on the parents.
I can speak from my experience. I was a horrible teenager. I talked back, ran away from home, etc. My daughter was the complete opposite of me. She just graduated from college and was a pretty good kid.

Kids are kids. Everything is relative. The notion of kids growing up in the new millennium being "worse" than kids who grew up in earlier generations is ludicrous.
Now, if you'd like my opinion on whether parents these days are worse than parents were once upon a time...☺

The kids now are worse. Young kids are having babies and don't have a clue as to how to take care of them, they are very disrespectful because they can not be desiplined because of the laws, they are allowed out on the streets all hours of the night with no supervision and getting into trouble, they have no respect for their teachers and the list goes on. In my country, you were allowed to desipline your child, even the teachers are allowed to desipline you. We could not be out on the street once the street lights comes on. We must have all our homework done first before we do anything else. We could not answer our parents in any disrespectful way or even show disrespect using body language. When you are told to do something, you better do it right away. You always show respect to others, especially your elders and definitely no cursing. We were not allowed to have boyfriends until you are finished with school, at least high school. Most of the families were very strict. I don't regret growing up like that because it made me a beautiful person on the inside.

I think kids today are much worse, by far!
No respect for their parents, awful attitudes, learning & trying "bad" things sooner, more developed at a young age, etc.
My 11 year old daughter is a pretty good child, but I would never have been able to talk to my mom the way she talks to adults sometimes.
The eye rolling, the annoying sucking of the teeth, the faces, the arguing......was NEVER allowed and never tolerated.
I think in these times now, parents try & want to be FRIENDS with their kids. It's a double edged sword. If they think of you as a friend, they won't respect you as much as a parent.
(in my opinion)

Kids will be kids, just as they have been for 1000s of years. Today's kids live in the world created by the kids from 30 yrs ago. They aren't better or worse.
There are some great kids today, just like always; and some bad. It's all about the individual.
