I have similar problem. First throw out mat as it now has his pee scent on it and replace it with a new one. If this is not practical then wash the area with diluted white spirit as this also removes the scent. Finally the best thing to do is prevent the other cat from visiting as this is a territorial issue. You can use a water pistol to scare away the other cat and this causes no harm. I have spent ages squirting a local cat in order to scare it away and it has finally worked. If you have more than one cat they can start to really fight with each other even if they were always the best of friends all because another cat is on the scene.

Take up the mat, and put the litter tray in its place. You may have a fussy cat who wants the tray cleaned up every time he uses it (I dont mean change all the litter- just take out what he has done).
Alternately, your cat could be leaving a "Get off- I live here" message for the other cat!!!!!

I imagine he is sending a message to the neighbor cat that this is his territory. Also, after a cat pees somewhere, it is very difficult to get the smell out especially for the cat since their sense of smell is so sensitive. My suggestion would be to take up the exisiting door mat, clean the porch or step with a bleach solution, then buy a new door mat. Hope that helps.

Cats wont toilet next to there food just like humans so try putting the food down as close to the front door mat as you can or on it.This worked with my 4 cats and they stopped. Just remember they are only scenting there territory. If your neighbours cat is coming in your house or garden put a stop to that and don't stoke it , imagine if your partner brought home a new girl friend or boy friend and sat stroking them in your home you would probably pee on the mat !

As other answers have said, he's marking his territory. If you clean up with disinfectant don't use the usual stuff you get from the supermarket, or bleach for that matter, because they contain ammonia. Cat urine also contains ammonia and the smell from the product you use will encourage your cat pee there again. You need a special cleaner from the pet shop. Please don't rub your cat's nose in it; you wouldn't try to teach a child that way would you? You might also want to try putting your cat's food dish on the mat; cats are fastidious creatures and don't like to soil their feeding place. Good luck.

Get a new mat so that smell has gone completely and then start feeding him there. Cats will rarely pee where they eat, should only take a couple of days then you can move his bowl back to its normal place

Check your local pet store for a product that will eliminate odor (Nature's Miracle comes to mind). If any of the smell is left behind, even if you remove the mat, the cat will continue to pee there. Once the odor has been eliminated the cat will no longer desire to return to that spot to pee.

Buy a new door mat first and also get some upholstery cleaner this will get rid of the smell coz if your cat can still smell his own pee he will do it again and again. also stop letting this over cat in your house as your cat me be scent marking his/her territory.
