Which hair spray can I use that doesn't leave a white residue on my hair when I shampoo it. I have washed my hair 5 times in a row and there is still the white residue, or which shampoo will get it out.

First of all how close to your head are you spraying this hairspray? You want to be about 10 inches from you hair... spraying in a sweeping motion that way it doesn't clump up. There are several different shampoo brands that will get rid of any residue left over from various hair care products that build-up in our hair. They will specify this on the products. The next time you are out by a salon, just ask a hair stylist to recommend some products for you... there are tons! Good luck. Also remember you are not supposed to wash your hair every day, you will end up stripping it of its natural nutrients... every other day is better. Plus you don't want to dry out your scalp.

Tresseme hairsprays are nice or try a professional brand like Aveda or Paul Mitchell...the ones that usually leave a residue are the cheapest brands. Also try some baking soda in a clarifying shampoo to strip that residue out safely and then condition well.

You're probably using too much hairspray. Try using a clarifying shampoo. Pantene has one. I've tried it and it works well. See below for a description.

Clarifying Shampoo

A purer kind of shine - Reveal your hair's natural shine with Pantene Pro-V Clarifying Shampoo. The ultimate in pure cleansing, Pantene Pro-V’s Clarifying Shampoo invigorates your hair down to its roots by completely removing grease and everyday build-like daily styling products residues. After using the clarifying formula you will have completely clean, shiny healthy-looking hair.

I use Pantene Clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up and residue. It works wonderfully, but you don't want use it too much or it can strip the protective oils off your hair.

It's not what kind you use...it's the amount. You're obviously shellacking your hair. I've used everything from AquaNet in the late 80's to Redkin & I've only had that problem when I layered on the gunk.

Ease up on the spray.
