When I went up to Lake Las Vegas this past Sunday with my folks. I found an egg on a rock by itself, unbroken and no parents around. I wanted to take it home but my older sister said to leave it.
I was tempted to sneak it back home but now I feel guilty about leaving on that rock.
Should I have left it there or brought it home?
No jokes or wisecracks allowed!
It looked like a bird egg and it was probably about the size of a tennis ball.
I'm a little upset I don't have it with me.

First off, I DIDN'T touch it and Kelsey I'm NOT an animal abuser!
I was tempted to bring the egg home bacuase I worried about what might have happend to it.
So I guess that was the motherly side in me.
Plus I don't think there are any raccoons in nevada.
Just Quails, Jack rabbits, Vultures etc...

I think that you did the right thing by ignoring it - especially for health reasons.

I would also be tempted to take the egg home but I think that would only put it in more danger. Plus, the parents could have just left to find food for it and could have been back right the second you left, birds never leave their children alone for long until they've learned to fly. You are not an animal abuser, you just have a big heart.

You did the right thing by leaving it. The mother may have pushed it out of the nest because there was somethig wrong with it. I get that guilt too sometimes. I once saw this strange bird on the sidewalk in the middle of Philadelphia, and luckily a female cab driver saw me acting weird, stopped, asked if I was okay, and brought the bird to the 24 hour vet.

Did you touch it? I fyou touched it, youmight as well have taken it home because once a human touches an egg or a baby bird for that matter, the mother bird will have nothing to do with it. So if you touched it, then it is dead now, but that is nature and everything happens for a reason, you will be ok. Good Luck.

I think you did the right thing.
And just for the record, if you touch a bird egg, or even a baby bird, the parents will NOT reject it. It is a myth that birds will reject their offspring after human contact. Most birds have little to no sense of smell, and won't even be able to tell if you handled it.

You did the right thing by leaving it there. It was probably a meal for a raccoon. It is not uncommon for your motherly instincts to kick in. It's a good sign.
Have a great day.

leave it there! if you touch it the bird wont return! you wouldnt of been able to hactch it anyways, so at the worst, it will feed another baby of a diffrent type of animal. thats life! i know how you feel tho you wantted to make it safe, perhaphs it fell out of the nest, the birds wouldnt stay around it if there were humans to best to leave it all round what ever the out come!

kolvirbleys is right, you did the right thing and birds have not a clue if you touched it. hatching it would have been almost impossible not knowing what kind of bird laid it and having the proper equipment to incubate it. so feel at ease.
