I know it's in their nature to bark obsessively at anything they see moving. My dog gets into the garbage like everyday and if she gets the chance she'll run out the front door and run down the street and I'll have to chase after her for like 2 blocks and she sometimes gets into fights with my other dogs......is this normal and is it true that she is supposed to calm down alot like when she turns 3 years old?

Yes, they will calm down usually before they turn 3. My husband raises beagles. It is their nature to bark and chase small animals, most beagles are used for hunting deer or rabbits. Does she stay inside all day? She may just have so much pent up energy that when she gets the chance to get outside, she just runs wild. Also, after a dog gets "fixed" they calm down a lot. Have you ever seen that show that comes on National Geographic channel called "The Dog Whisperer". That is a really cool show. He shows people how to train their dogs to listen and only do what you are the owner want them to do. If you have cable, watch that show, in my area in western North Carolina, it comes on a Friday night around 9:00 PM. Good luck with your beagle. They are great dogs. We have about 20 of them at my house, of course, all but one of them is hunting dogs.

Yes it is true. I have 2 beagles. One is 6 and the other is 2.5. My 6yo is the perfect pet...But he wasn't always that way. He used to run away, not listen when he was on the trail of something, chew things, get into the garbage. My 2.5 year old is still going through some of this. But you will notice that as they grow they will get better. I have heard that if you can make it through the first two years of having a beagle you can make it through anything. I know it seems hopeless now but just keep at it and it will pay off. Remember to be consistent with discipline.
Keep in mind that they might not grow out of everything. Both of my beagles still bark...this is there breed and not really much you can do about it. If she is getting into the garbage while you are gone, I recommend crating her until she is at least two. I left my 2.5 year old out of his crate before he was ready and ate a grapevine basket. He almost had to have stomach surgery.Remember that crating isn't cruel...you owe it to your animal to keep them safe.

It all depends on how you train your puppy. Just because it's supposed to be a beagle's "nature" to bark, mine only barks a little during play. Also, I've trained her, on leash, not to run out any doors without being on leash or without her release command of "okay."
You should try to find a trainer that could help you with both of your problems. You need to nip these habits in the butt while she's still young.
But yes, I agree that most dogs (not just beagles) calm down as they age.

We have a 9 year old and 6 month old beagle. The older one is the "good boy" and the little one is the "monster boy". When he is 9, I am sure that he will be the good boy too.

I sure hope so.....
