When I first started dating my boyfriend, he smoked. He decided to quit two weeks later, and didn't smoke for a few months. Then he moved in and quit his job and took 2 weeks to find another one. He started to get really stressed out and would sneak around behind my back to smoke (but I could always tell b/c I could smell it on his breath). Now, two months later, it is ruining our relationship. He knows I hate it, and don't like to kiss him when he smokes, but he can't keep from buying cigs when he gets "stressed out". I tell him stress will always be there and he says "i'm punishing myself i hate smoking". Yet, he still goes out and buys cigs. Every coulple days he'll try quitting and want me to be all supportive, but then gets stressed out, says that I am adding to his stress level and smokes anyways. Its pissing me off but i can't really say anything cause he doesn't do it around me.What to do?

i started dating him cause he was fun to be with and was talking about quitting, and didn't do it around me much. He still doesn't smoke around me (i won't allow it in the house) but I can't stand the ashtray breath.. yuck.

seriously think about it if he doesnt do it around u and he respect u enough to try to quit smoking then u know he cares. u knew he was a smoker before u dated him so the only thing u can do is support him and help him as much as u can so he can quit. also carry a beath mint or gum and stick it in his mouth before u kiss him :) it is the hardest thang to do to quit i know i am struggling wit it myself. and the more people nag or give me neg. feedback i just keep smoking. but when i get positive feedback it helps me. so tell him u will help him and be there through it all. if u love him then u will.

For your boyfriends room you could get an ionizer and an air filter - this will help keep the air clean and nice. Don't use air fresheners because though they may smell like "hawaiian breeze" the chemicals are just as bad if not worse than the chemicals in cigarette smoke. To get the smoke off the walls there is a type of sponge used in the restoration industry called a chem sponge (it doesn't have chemicals it is very dense material) and this takes off the smoke from the walls. You could probably find this at a janitorial supply store.

if i was him i would drop you so quick. I understand the whole no smoking thing.I am a smoker and understand him. if he is not puffin in the house in front of you what is the problem?I don't smoke in my car/truck or my house. The more you gripe at him the faster he's gonna light em up. hell be glad it's not crack for Christ sake.If you love him and wanna show support go get him some of that stop smoke.Or do you not care and just ***** to him all the time. I think your blaming his smoking on your unhappiness.

ask him if he can think of other things he can do when he is stressed out instead of smoking cigarettes. If he finds others things he can do when he is stressed out then Im sure smoking will be a part of the past especially if he cares about you and honestly wants to stop smoking.

"let the sinless person cast the first stone."
i think smoking is natural for a person who does it. it's really hard for a person to quit on something he's used to. and by the way you told the story, it's the way how he releases tension. you also told in the story that, he doesn't smoke around you. i think it's very sweet of him to not smoke around you because he knows that you don't want him to smoke. he doesn't want you to go...
anyway, it's your decision. if you can't take his smoking habits then break up with him.

Do him a favor and let him go. He'll hate you if you nag. Then he'll be miserable thinking he is choosing cigs over you. But he shouldn't have to choose. If you leave it'll make it all easier for the both of you.

Why do women want to change everybody they date when you first meet him you excepted him for what he was a smoker. Now you Bit@h at him for what he does.
You have the problem, and you're not helping him if and when he wants to quit, he will.

Obviously you have talked to him. It's either put up with his nasty habit or dump him. OR, both of you can work towards getting to a place in life where niether one of you are stressed out
